Per WSJ

quote:

Today, younger married couples are less likely to split up than they once were, driving the trend. But, at the same time, the rate of divorce for older generations has increased in a phenomenon known as “gray” divorce.

IOW, the same people that were fricking it up 30 years ago are the ones fricking it up now.

That’s great news. Divorce - especially with kids - is absolute hell, and I truly wouldn’t wish on anyone, even an enemy.

That's because the marriage rate is at an all time low.

More shacking up means less marriages means less divorces.

I believe shacking up is in decline as well, as is abortions, etc.

Seems like younger folks are learning from older generations' mistakes.

Still seeing a lot of late 30's broads pulling the pin.

Guess they want a few years of getting pumped by rando's before their market value is nil.

That because people aren't getting married anymore. They're having babies with their multi year live in partner and then just leaving couple years later.

I agree in some ways, but the kids, as I have seen, are used as a tool or "staying for the kids". In some ways, I think its worse. They end up growing up seeing their parents at each other throats.

One more thing, there's been reports that marriage is becoming more of an upper class thing. Wealthier folks are still marrying, going to church, etc.

I think divorces are mostly going down because less people feel obligated to get married to begin with.

People have no problem now just shitting out kids while unmarried, so you have all the major problems of divorce (single parent homes) without technically having the divorce.

I believe everyone has nailed it. The Divorce Generation children suffered the experience and has said they're either all in or never going to take the plunge.

Those who have kids understand the damage divorce does to all involve, especially the kids and couldn't imagine putting them in the same situation.

The waiting longer part is maybe a silver lining to the difference in purchasing power, job security, and consumer demand between now and 40 years ago. I couldn't imagine being married by 19 and 21 like my parents were. I was a dumbass for almost another decade.

What's the marriage rate among black people? Serious question. It used to be higher than whites.l pre-1960's. The divorce rates among blacks were considerably lower as well. I know that's not the case anymore, but it seems almost like a rarity to meet a married black couple, or even a non-state "licensed" nuclear family where the father is involved in the lives of the mother and his child/ren, under the age of 40 in BR.

Appears to be an under-researched or buried area of inquest, best I can find is 27% nationally.

Yikes found some Louisiana specific stats broken down along demographic lines regarding, marriages, divorces, births outside wedlock and births into poverty and I'd say LA is frickED for decades to come. Nola and BR finna look like South Africa 2019

I’ve been married 25 years. Tell me more about this here Grey Divorce. Does it mean I quit getting incessantly bitched at and nagged every waking moment ? If so, which line do I get in?

We can add marriage to the long list of things the boomers fricking suck at.

For all the shite we give millennials, the boomers are the most degenerate generation in US history and brought us the all time record divorce, violent crime, abortion and unwed birth rates in the 70s-80s. And because they also fricking suck at managing money, we’re gonna spend the next 20 years dealing with a bunch of poor, homeless old people until they die out.
