We've talked about, from the outset, how disturbing, how disappointing and upsetting these posts are, and they will undeniably impact police-community relations," Ross said.
That's the police commissioner.
The PC is more a politician than a cop. Appointed by the Mayor and saying what he thinks needs to be said to keep his job. Until I see the posts, I am not sure how to feel.
The big decider will be if they are just reposting funny memes or if they are authoring rants on taboo subjects. There is a big difference between reposting something you find humorous that is a bit risqué and saying in First Person “I believe this, I hate this...”

I thought the wrong words made it obvious

I just moved back from Philly 2 months ago.
2 Things of Note:
1) The last thing Philly needs is LESS cops. That city is going to shite with how Left it is going and how much free rein it is giving to the wrong people. When you hit 7th and Spring Garden, it is miles and miles of EXTREME ghetto North and 3-4 miles west. The police do not even patrol the areas.
2) Philly cops are some of the biggest douchebags I've ever seen.

That I grant you for sure.

Either way, the misdirected anger at the researchers is ignorant. It's the police department themselves that have done this. But that doesn't really fit the narrative quite so easily.
The baws should really be saying frick the commissioner instead of the journalists or researchers.

Wait, so the city needs police to enforce Right wing politics?

I sense a First Amendment lawsuit is somewhere in the City of Philadelphia’s future ......

The posts were uncovered by a team of researchers who spent two years looking at the personal Facebook accounts of police officers from Arizona to Florida.
How much taxpayer money was spent to pay for this nonsense?

So because social media is weaponized against one group, that makes it ok to be weaponized against another?
How about we stop hyperventilating over what anyone posts on social media?
I'm not a cop, I'm just a dude who works in an office, and I can be fired from my job for all sorts of things I do when i'm outside of work, on social media or off of it.
Of course cops should also potentially be fired for things they do off duty, that's a no brainer.

About the Project In the summer of 2016, a team of attorneys in Philadelphia learned that numerous local police officers had posted content on Facebook that appeared to endorse violence, racism and bigotry. In some of these posts, officers commented that apprehended suspects—often black men— “should be dead” or “should have more lumps on his head.” In other Facebook conversations, officers advocated shooting looters on sight and using cars to run over protestors. Numerous posts deemed Islam “a cult, not a religion” and referred to Muslims as “savages” and “goat-humpers.” And, in still others, officers appeared to joke about beating and raping women. This discovery inspired the creation of the Plain View Project (PVP), a research project that has identified thousands of Facebook posts and comments by current and former police officers. We believe that these statements could erode civilian trust and confidence in police, and we hope police departments will investigate and address them immediately.
Of course, that doesn't say no public funds were used, but that's the best I've got so far.
Ya'll just love to focus on the wrong thing.

That looks like the worst of what's been posted. Some of it does look pretty innocuous, albeit dumb to post publicly as an officer.
Edit: That's only the Dallas officers apparently.

The implication is that what you’re focusing on is 100% the right thing.

Yep, typical right wing beliefs right there.

Correct. Stuff like this has no place near a police department.

At least you admit your conceit and condescension.
Good luck finding enough humans to meet the demand for police officers if you use your standards. I’m not defending their posts, I’m just being realistic.

Eventually, I think sites like this (TD) will be traced back to people also. The average person these days will be careful what they say on sites like FB but not on sites that they consider somewhat anonymous.
The technology is basically available now to connect e-mail addresses with various (anon) social media accounts. Then it's just a matter of the sjw groups choosing how they go after who they want.

Yes such ridiculous standards like not being racist or not supporting open firing on protestors or running them down in vehicles aka terrorism.
How dare we want our cops to not be like that.

Perhaps if policies like this weren't in place, there would be more qualified candidates

Not what I meant at all. Would you disagree that some of their posts are a result of attitudes that are created by the environment that they work in?

Absolutely. Which is all the more reason to weed out cops like these that clearly can't handle the stress.
