Easier way to tear conduit stakes out of the ground?

We have planted a lot of trees on our property and protected them in the first year or two with tree tubes that we secured in the ground with 5' long 1/2" wide EMT conduit stakes, driving them ~18" deep. Now that it's time to take them out, it's a pretty backbreaking job to pull them out by hand. Can't use a shovel as it might damage the tree roots. Any ideas on more efficient ways to tear the conduit stakes out than by hand?

I have a t post puller, but these conduit stakes are completely smooth on their entire edge, so there's nothing for the puller to catch on unlike a t post which has notches.

Modify it, drill a hole through the emt and put a bolt for it to catch
bend the emt to a 90 and it will catch
etc etc

For 1/2 inch dia EMT conduit, I’d cut them off at ground level with a reciprocating saw. Leaving 18 inch of conduit underground is not going to hurt the trees.

I’ve dug holes by cutting a saw teeth into the end of a pvc pipe then affixing the other end it to a hole saw bit so I can fit in in my drill. If you can get a pvc tube that’s slightly larger than the conduit that could work

Why not just drive them just below ground level and let them rust to nothing EMT has now galvanize on them so they will rust out over time and provide some iron to the soil ?

Dig 6” deep then cut with sawzall or wait another year or two and wait till it starts to rust and just break off

use large pipe wrench, it works like a grab handle to give you something to lift it by
if its stuck really good, then use a 2x4 as a pry bar to lift up on the pipe wrench handle

Grab them by the top and try to wiggle them in a circular motion really put out and TRY then grab them with a pipe wrench and loft as stated. Also as stated dig a shallow bowl depression and wack em off with a recip saw slightly below ground level

use a 2x4 as a lever. butt the flat side up against the pole, and wrap a chain around it. I've used this and pulled up 4x4 post with the concrete still attached
