The Chimes- East and West, what happened?

Went to chimes (east) for father's day lunch and i think i'm through with going there. Both Chimes, suffer from the same thing. The tables and chairs desperately need replacement. The floors are coated with a nice grimy/slick sheen, which is awesome when you have young kids that like to touch everything. And the restrooms are the dirtiest restrooms in a restaurant outside of a remote truck stop gas station. And, they've managed to take the McDonald's ice cream concept with their sauteed crab fingers. They are always out. The crab finger machine must be broken.
Anyway, enough of the rant. I think i'm done with both Chimes for awhile.

The food is pretty much the same, but the restaurants are just not kept up, it seems. Especially Chimes East. But both restaurants bathrooms are filthy.

last 2 times I went to East, it's been pretty empty and we waited over an hour. wont be going back
West has never let me down, but I haven't been since it's been under construction

We went to have a few beers before a party at East last weekend and apparently they're having some sort of hood issues over the oyster grill... place was smoky as shite and we reeked of smoke when we left

I think the long time owner died a year or so ago. Maybe his kids don't run it like he did.

Lsu chimes is fine imo. They just redid the bathroom by the entrance. The other one does need a touching up though.
Crabs have seasons. Are you going to be mad at Tony's because they dont have crawfish in September?

Same here. And they sat us upstairs (for some reason they always sit us upstairs) and it was overly smoky.

I don't think I've ever had a good experience at Chimes East. I haven't eaten there in at least 10 years.

Crab fingers have always been seasonal at the Chimes. Though, things at East have gone south. Went the other day and don't plan going back anytime soon.

Was just making a comparison. You're griping about a seasonal item not being available

Crab claws are frozen by the boatload and are available all year long. Nobody is serving “fresh seasonal” crab claws. Every single one is frozen.

I don't think they are doing that, but they've always stated that the crab claws are based on availability. I don't know if they're just not ordering them (doubtful) or if their supplier runs out often/has a limited supply?

Poor comparison

As another poster pointed out, their crab fingers likely aren't fresh off the boat. And secondly, typically their seasonal items, like crawfish, has "seasonal" by the item on the menu. And third, every time i order them, the response is, "we're out". Not, "they aren't in season".

Well if they are anything like shrimp, they are flash frozen on the boat before they even make it to shore.

Availability from a supplier and seasonal are two different things. Walk into Tony’s year round and they have frozen crab. Even during the season if you aren’t buying fresh whole live or boiled you are getting frozen. Same with shrimp.
