not familiar with chevy engine bay, but I would guess that for some sort of cooling line to a radiator in the front, potentially for a transmission.
Is there any fluid, if so what type

Obviously, the hose contains the black smoke.

Follow the directions in the link. Here's a YouTube video also showing the process.

That leads to the heater coil on your truck, if I'm seeing the picture correctly. Same thing happened on my Silverado.
Chances are that white stub out you see got soft and broke. You should be able to pick one up at Autozone to replace it.
this. get the tool kit to pull it too, costs about 6 bucks, will save you lots of stress and cussing when the other part of it breaks while you're trying to take it out.
ETA: also, once you fill the radiator, you're gonna need to let it sit with the cap off and bleed the air out and fill again. don't be surprised if it runs a little hotter than normal on the way home.

One more thought; if for some reason you can't get the plastic connector off of the heater coil, you can use a coupling and hose clamps to connect the two hoses coming out the heater coil together. You're not going to need the heater during the summer anyway.

This guy has your answer. Just an fyi that it's called a heater core.
Op, one of the hoses is taking coolant to your heater core and one away from the heater core. It is the same water/coolant mixture that us used to cool the engine. You will burn it up if you try to drive it.
However, you can connect those two hoses with a coupling. You don't need a heater right now, and it will get your vehicle moving very quickly.
All you'd need is a coupling, boxcutters (to cut the other hose), and two hose clamps.
Good luck.

yep, now I don't feel bad that I didn't point out that she's been tricked into connecting a hose to a fitting that will cause the vehicle to explode after 15 minutes of operation
