It ain't helping them that cars last 4-5 times longer than they did 30 years ago.
This is a small factor, but many car makers have been making long lasting cars since the 80's. It's just taken American manufacturers that long to catch up, but they've mostly been caught up since the early 00's. I've had 2 Fords go well over 200k miles, which would have been unheard of in the 80's.

Why? Interest rates are already low and about to be lower. You can probably get 0% financing at the end of the year. .99% at worst.

Auto or Higher Education. Which will correct first? I think Higher Education.

I know it. Gave my 2007 f150 to my brother as a farm truck, cuz I would've lost my arse trading it in.

You may want to check your math.

Further, when more features have been required, like back up cameras, etc. the base costs will climb as well.
Instead of a rear view mirror, my dad's new Silverado has a video screen. It's cool and all, but an improvement? Nah.

For me personally, this would be because of how long lasting vehicles are now. I bought a 4Runner new in January of '07 (watched Saban's press conference about going to Bama in the dealership) and drove it for 11 years and 250,000 miles. I bought another 4Runner new in December '17, and I joke to my wife that I plan on it being our 2 year old's first car in 14 years.

Well some of the higher end models were up there, i'm not saying all trucks are 55k but I couldn't find many decent ones under 33k (stick price of course, not a quoted rate) that I was interested in. I am looking for something newer though... I have an 06 impala now that i paid off probably 10 years ago. $37 a month in insurance is pretty nice
Time for a new ride and I really like that forester sport I posted a pic of but damn man, that little 4 banger engine and it's not even leather on the inside... I'd pay 24k tops for it and they better through in a trailer hitch

There is nothing wrong with having no debt on a depreciating asset that also has regular expenses like maintenance.
We all know you can invest and get a better return and you are not wrong but consider that there are many ways to get ahead money-wise and everyone's psychology is different.

Chevy. I just did a lot of research as I was considering buying one. Fords were generally 3-5k more expensive than a Chevy. I would never buy a Dodge, but higher than them as well.

Which models specifically? I'd imagine you aren't comparing equal levels of equipment.

That old Triton v-8 is a work horse. Just a great engine.
Had 340k when I handed him the keys.
Sucks they replaced it.
Ecoboost my cock, Henry.

I've heard this explained out to me as well... but I don't understand the concept of it's "okay to have debt"
If I have the money and I'm currently in a place where I can afford a lump sum payment, why not just pay it off in full and be done with it?
This isn't meant as an insult question, I'm genuinely clueless why I shouldn't just pay off a vehicle i owe money on?

I just priced on KBB a Ford XLT SuperCrew with no additional options added and a Silverado LT Supercrew with none. The Chevy was $40,892 and the F150 was $37836

That headline is pretty misleading. Sales are relatively flat in the US, but they are flat at historically record high levels.

They make it pretty hard to compare exactly. They come standard with different things and packages are different. But, I found the same thing. I found Ford to be more expensive so we went with GMC last time we bought.

Im going to drive 08 until one of two things happens:
1) prices drop
or
2) wheels fall off
