Id do it just to know how many actual illegal immigrants are here
But they all lie. It's part of the mind set of an opportunist or criminal. They can't help it...it's who they are.

The Constitution requires the counting of all "free persons." The drafters could have said "citizens.
Thats nice. I doubt that hoards of invasive, criminal aliens, who hate the country and the laws, invading the country, even entered their minds.
But maybe they did use that literal meaning to things??
Now do "Shall not be infringed".
What do you think they meant by that??

The word “ Citizen” is not used in the context of any of these statements.
So what?

Should illegal immigrants be counted on the census at all?
Should a pass caught 5 yards out of bounds still count as a TD?

quote:in my youth, what you were saying was probably correct. The vast majority were not “immigrants,“ because they were just men who came here to work for part of the year, sent their money home, and returned to their home country for a significant portion of the year.
There are zero illegal immigrants. How ever there is a frick ton of Illegal Aliens.
Now, entire families are moving, bringing their children, and intending to stay. Like it or not, that is “immigration“ by definition… Whether legal or not.

Touche. The results will probably awaken Americans to the gravity of the situation.

No it wasn't and the language provides you with no support whatsoever.
It was obviously implied. At the birth of this country, it wasn't even known to be attractive for foreigners to sneak into.
You're trying to project the reasoning's of the 21st century to the constructing of a foundation of a country. The simple mindedness of the 21st century "Like ..yeah, dude...whatever, maan.... no human is illegal you bigot" was not even possible to the serious minded principles of the times.
Just my opinion...others may feel differently.

Sure. Count then have them sign their deportation orders and place them on a bus back home.

Pretty sure that means the Founders didn’t believe fetuses held legal personhood
You're probably right. Idiotic, and made up terms like "legal personhood" would have relegated the person saying that to be of weak intellect.

Count them or not, there is no valid reason to remove the US Citizenship question. We do need to know the actual count of citizens.
But I am against counting felons fleeing from justice. Most of the fence jumpers not only crossed our borders illegally, they skipped a court date and have warrants for their arrest. Doubt me? There was a hearing on this very subject in Lindsey Graham's committee this week.

I agree.

The US census purpose is to count US citizens
Unfortunately it is to count all persons. And they count for the purpose of representation = unless we enact some sort of 3/5 amendment to stop it.
We certainly need an amendment now that restricts representation to citizens only.

Do other foreign nationals who happen to be here at census time get counted too?

They should be counted twice.

Anyone who is in this country and receiving benefits from the government should be counted!

Did they count Indians?
Nope, because they were considered citizens of their own sovereign nations.
Imagine.

Ideologically, I do not think that noncitizens should be included in the count for purposes of apportionment. That is really irrelevant. Constitutionally, it is not even a close call.
This entire debate on the “don’t count them“ side boils down to people claiming the constitution says something because they think it SHOULD say that thing.
Rather like Roe. That Court agreed with the deluded. I rather doubt that this court would do so.

Maybe the constitution foolishly assumed we would actually enforce immigration law and national sovereignty and wouldn’t have to account for politicians absconding their duties and allowing tens of millions of fricking foreign nationals into our country.
