If you're getting it from a doctor/pharmacy, it's completely pure 100% of the time.

Nah. Nothing mentioned is particularly new and Earth shattering.

Hopefully there is more, because here is a summary of what OP included
PREMISE - what we know about addiction is wrong
1) We think we get addicted because of chemical hooks
2) But this isn't true because people on opioids for surgery don't get addicted
3) Rats prefer heroin water over normal water and they drink the shite out of it and die
4) But they avoid it if they have friends and other stuff to do
First, #2 is ridiculous in 2019.
The premise seems focused on how #4 and #2 disprove #1, but they don't. Like, at all.

I had to stop and shoot up twice while trying to read all that but I finally made it.

That is really facinating, and I agree mostly.
I still believe there is a chemical or physical imbalance in the brain for people that are addicts, however. As an alcoholic, I know my body craves EtOH, and I cant have just one.
But, my life is pretty happy now and so I drink the clean water, not the laced water.

Interesting perspective. On the surface it makes sense. I’m sure there’s more to it (like DNA), but it’s interesting

For the tl;dr crowd. Get high on people, not drugs!!!
Or get high on money.
love casts out fear. relationships and money cast out fear. therefore either relationships or money are considered to be love.
if you can't cast out fear with relationships or money, use drugs.
because someon who cant cast out fear with relationships or money or drugs is allowed to commit suicide without anyone judging them.

He’s wrong. If he walks outside and breaks his hip, he’ll get Morphine unless he’s been on opioids long term in which case they’ll give fentanyl

From now on, when I score heroin, I'm asking for the stuff with no hooks. Good read, OP.

but if you can't do that, because you're traumatized or isolated or beaten down by life, you will bond with something that will give you some sense of relief. Now, that might be gambling, that might be pornography, that might be cocaine, that might be cannabis, but you will bond and connect with something because that's our nature. That's what we want as human beings.
Seems like common sense to me.

When he talks about addicts who are missing that connection turning to drugs, that clicked. He hit it head on. For too long we have fought some invisible boogie man, locking up all the users and thus, forever ruining their prospects for a re-connection to society and a normal life.
What more do you expect from conservatives?

he never said there aren't chemical hooks. But that isn't the reason people turn to drugs and continue using them. Sure, the chemical dependency is a big problem, but not the root cause of the initial addiction.
Also, it's a TED talk, I posted like 2 minutes of the text...

We’ve been doing it wrong in the USA
I’ve been an advocate for a long time for more treatment options instead of jail. We’re not fixing or addressing the problem by putting someone in jail. It’s a temp solution to a long term problem. We need more treatment beds and sober living beds.

It's an interesting read. Not sure why you dudes brag about being illiterate.
It really was a good read. Hopefully something can be done about this.

I'm aware of that, TH03.
I'm not as dumb as I look.

and continue using them
I don't see any debunking of this part in particular
Comparing 20 days on addictive drugs to unknown flirting with drugs while one is living a fulfilled life just doesn't seem like it's a setting where you can break new ground on addiction.
If the takeaway is "If one is living a fulfilled life (barring injury or surgery recovery, etc.), a person has a better chance of avoiding drug use in frequency/quantity that would lead to chemical dependence" - then ok, but I'm just not sure the anecdotes used really lead us there.

I'll check this TED talk out. Thanks OP.

Basically what this guy is saying is that people that are strong willed can quit at anytime and weak losers can’t
