Most people want to leave the West Bank.

I'm in decent shape so on my 50th birthday, I decided to swim across False River (on a bet). There was light wind an zero current. Just measured my path on Google and it is 1907 feet.
Just measured STRAIGHT across from Algiers point and it is 2164 feet. Looks like her alleged path puts her closer to 2300 feet.
I doubt I could come close to that swim given the current.

I fell off a tugboat when I was 23. I don't want any part of that River. You have fun with that craziness.

My dad told me when he was in his teens he paddled across with a log for support. This was in Donaldsonville back in the late 60’s. Not sure how the current then compares to now though.

Depends on where you cross

The currents would essentially do the work for you, there’s no fighting them, just tread and float
I know it doesn't look like it from the banks, but the middle gets some pretty wicked waves that would make treading difficult on a normal day. 5'-6' rolling waves with the current is a tough one. One wave would pick you up and the next would take you down under in the current. Rinse and repeat. You'd need to be a hell of swimmer to fight through that middle section.

I was able to swim across the Red River, before the Lock & Dam structures were functioning. There was a considerable current, but it's only about 1/3rd the width of the Mississippi...

There is a reason ANGOLA is surrounded by the Miss river in 3 sides.
