There is a multitude of reasons why you should adopt a rescue instead of going through a dog breeder. You're not only saving the life of an animal, but you are making an effort to break the cycle of overpopulation & decreasing the amount of animal cruelty. 8-12 million pets are euthanized each year because so many would rather go to an over-priced breeder or puppy mill.

What [unselfish] reasons would anyone have to go through a breeder?

Using a particular breed for a purpose, such as hunting, herding, flock protection, etc.,

That's really about it, though.

Why not go after the irresponsible pet owners who abandon their puppies rather than people who want a specific dog?

I’m looking for a rescue and having a difficult time finding the dog I want near me

But I’ll wait and not go through a breeder. Though that’s mostly because my bf only rescues

(That said, I have 7 rescue mutts at the house. They've all been/are great dogs. Just not the prettiest bunch.)

Because if I want a specific animal, I'm going to go pay for it.

I've rescued enough animals

This view is fine and I somewhat agree with it but I have an issue when someone buys a pure breed dog and people immediately shite on them for not adopting.

I have seen a lot of that lately and it is quite annoying.

There's nothing wrong with doing either one. It's only Self-righteous people who preach against responsible breading.

because I don't want the dog that got beaten by a midget with a baseball bat to fricking freak out and kill my kid when he is practicing his swing.

Puppies aren't damaged goods.

You can adopt a puppy that will satisfy that. As long as they are young enough, you can still train them or send them to whatever school you need.

The legit breeder I found was actually cheaper than the puppy mill (Huntington) some people referred me to.

What do you mean by "go after"? What type of legal act could you perform that would prevent irresponsible pet owners to stop from doing this?

Why is life of a rescue animal worth more than the life of an animal from a breeder?
