The stores don’t want their employees confronting thieves at all. Shoplifting costs can be absorbed. Lawsuits from an employee being shot trying to chase someone, or even the thief being injured by the employee aren’t worth it.
Police don’t do much because shoplifting is a low priority. Their advice to retailers is to have top of the line video surveillance that can capture a clear picture.
The manager probably finished helping check people out, went to his office to call police, and later that day they stopped by to collect any surveillance captured.

Don't employees get fired if they try to physically hold people that are stealing?

This can be a 10 page thread if you change the thread title.

Who steals the crappy toilet paper? If you don't plan on paying for it, shouldn't you splurge for the good Charmin?

Titos and shite tickets. Right on.

So Advocate has come to its senses and realized, no one’s purchasing a subscription to their garbage arse newspaper?

I think most stores are told not to intervene with shop lifters. They prefer they call police who promptly show up 30 mins later to fill out a report for insurance on the stolen merch

The amount of stuff stolen from the college drive walmart has to be astronomical

Corporate will fire you on the spot at most places just for stepping out the door, due to the insane liability they would incur if you were shot, stabbed, run over, etc.
You should provide great customer service while they're inside but not attempt to confront them. If they walk out, save the video, call the cops, maintain records of habitual offenders.
My company is super-woke and suffered a recent PR catastrophe, so when filling out incident reports, even of blatant theft captured on video, we aren't allowed to describe the race of thieves. Apparently all incident reports can potentially be subpoenaed in civil suits and would qualify as evidence that we were profiling as a matter of policy.
You also can't use terms like "braids" or "afro".

Mantraps, so when someone waltzes out, clerk presses button, person trapped until cops come.
This will be the future. There's a few companies that dominate the market but mostly privately held security companies, so you can't really buy stock in them.
But business is booming, and will continue to.

Really sad that black people are forced to steal
We should let food stamps cover liquor and toilet paper too

Walmart is testing a biometric facial recognition system right now.
Store security cameras have started accumulating faces for the database.
When it is fully operational, your face will be scanned when you walk in the parking lot. If you are on their naughty list, a police officer will meet you before you get to the entrance and tell you WM does not allow you into the store.
Start to notice how many cameras they have. And the good clarity on the ones you can see yourself in. It’s interesting.

I hope it gets out of control and Wal-Mart has to shut down.
They dont want policing, so be it. Now you live with the consequences.

I've seen someone do this at Home Depot with a cart full of power tools. Walked right out to a waiting car, loaded it up, and drove off. The cashier said it happens from time to time.

I could save so much money if this is the case.
Quite the opposite. You're probably paying higher prices to subsidize these people's theft.

I went to Albertson's on College and apparently someone had just pulled this off, as half the employees were outside just watching him walk towards College. Then a few days ago, I was in the checkout line at Walgreens on College, when the manager stated to a gentleman that they could check him out on this other register...as he walked out of the store with two cases of beer. That was it. They didn't seem upset, or in any rush to call police..nothing.
It pisses me off just to read this. Seeing it happen, I would totally lose it.
