I get wanting fair return for an All-Pro, but getting 3 great players on friendly deals or picks would be incredible. Obviously Ayton isn't coming, but if you got him, you'd have him at like 9 mil the next 3 years. Getting good role players on friendly contracts means you could get your star in FA. Then you also have your role players there developed and you can go over the cap to sign them to a new deal.

Exactly. The overall flexibility the deal would give us the next few years with a good young core already locked up is too good to pass up

Last years draft was loaded and he was the consensus #1.

Was he? I feel like quite a few people still wanted Luka.

Well it was a fill a need/system fit too. But still, I remember reading that almost every GM in the NBA would have taken him with a few being on Luka's side.

Im not crewz but I never thought it made sense to pick Ayton over Luka. Luka has future MVP potential in my dumb little mind.

But go look at the other posts. Thats not what we've been talking about. I realize not wanting him as the best piece in a trade, thats fair enough.

The Mindset has to be: the piece has to the piece

Ayton damn well better be the piece you are speaking of

What’s “the piece” for the Knicks? What about the Clippers? Lakers?

And how do those “pieces” compare to Ayton?

Depending on the need, he would be an easy #2 pick this year.

If you're combing drafts from the last two seasons, Ayton isnt going before Zion, Luka, and Jaren Jackson, for sure. Most probably wouldnt take him over Morant or Young, Id imagine.

Who will be the better player in the league in your view?

Ayton v RJ Barrett
Ayton v Culver
Ayton v Garland

Zion I agree, obviously. And i'm talking about if they were all prospects.

Its easy to say he wouldnt go in front of Luka now. Its hard to see his RC season and be like "o yea id defifitely take Ayton over him." It was an extremely good season but going into the draft, Ayton was a higher prospect. I think you missed the point bc we already know how last years draft played out

Morant is probably the only other person outside of Zion that might have a higher draft rating than Ayton.

I haven’t watched Culver tape yet

I’d rather the other 2 over Ayton as well as Ingram or Ball

Who is your modern day Comp to Ayton bunch?

Scoring big men have become less and less useful.

Coming out of college I kind of thought he could be a Shawn Kemp or KAT style of player. I watched almost zero Suns last year though.

I think that opinion is off the wall too.

I mean would you take Harrison Barnes over AD? It’s the more useful position!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Taking some of those guys over Ayton is nuts.

I don’t think anyone would argue that Ayton is not and will not be a fantastic player, but if I had to chose between who I want my centerpiece in an AD trade, I’m taking Tatum over Ayton every time.

The only other guys you could make an argument to be a better centerpiece in an AD trade is RJ Barrett and/or D-Lo. If I can’t get any of those guys, I’ll gladly take Ayton

I can see why people like SGA and you can make that argument, but Ayton by a mile imo

I love Tatum. I think people are completely undervaluing him.

I just think the Phoenix package is at least interesting.
