I know it’s because urban areas lean left and are more densely populated, but there are way larger areas of dark blue than dark red in cities. Birmingham is split down the middle (literally) and the dem section is dark blue and the red section is more pink.

It's not a perfect correlation in most cities, but in Baton Rouge, black areas are Democrat and white areas are Republican. The Florida Boulevard dividing line is on full display here.

Look at the area where the lower 9th meets Arabi. There's no physical boundary like a canal there, but the color goes from dark blue to pink right at the city/parish line.

I think it is interesting that Louisiana has 4 of the top 11 "most politically polarized cities in the U.S." according to their metrics.

They are characterizing a lot of Louisiana and southern cities as polarized. I believe a better connotation is diverse.
The fact is the most polarized regions are the most diverse. The less diverse areas are less polarized.
So, if the goal is less political polarization that the libs want, inadvertently they are being racist.

So its essentially a redo of the Racial Dot Map that isn't as useful for planning where to avoid.
