Plenty of anti-viral medications. Should have asked for Tamiflu

They gave my wife free sample of something new, it wasn’t tamiflu though. It was 2 pills but he told her it was his last samples and was free. It was some kind of antiviral medication. Wife had type B flu and I had A. A week later she went back and then had type A So we will be getting a 3rd bill soon. I’ve never seen her so sick so long like that, it sucked.

It’s like when the bank requires ID and shite to put cash in your account. Look, lady, idc who it is, if someone walks up and tries to put money INTO my account, you let them.

and yet anyone with your account number and routing code, which is printed on every check you've ever written, can ACH any money out of your account.

You can ask about costs of services up front just like any other service. Only problem is that you have to think about doing it when talking to the doctor, after you’ve been waiting for an hour, and sick.

I’ve done this and had them give me alternatives rather than just hit me with $150 treatments

I might have just waited until the new calendar year if I'd known it was going to cost that much so that it applied to this year's deductible.

It is always fun playing the deductible game at the end of the year. The cost to you can vary wildly if you get something done on Dec. 31 vs. Jan. 1.

I had the swine flu in 2009, but have felt more sick this week with a virulent strain of rhinovirus. It has been brutal.

Doctors hate it just as much as patients do.

Now, imagine adding MORE government. It's lunacy.

"If you hand us the reins we can give you the same product, quicker, and at a lower price!" - leftist politicians

This statement has never been true in the history of the world.

Maybe those big banks you use. My local doesn’t even ask for an ID when I make a withdrawal. Perhaps you should shop around.

Medical Billing has gone mad

I have a recurring monthly procedure that I have been doing for about 18 months. Same exact thing, every month. My bill each month varies within about a 20% range. It isn't a huge charge, so the cost doesn't bother me its just I can't understand why it varies.

What's really been crazy the last few years as far as providers go is the price of generic medications. Especially in the dermatology world, generics have gone up exponentially it seems.

My FIL is a pediatrician for over 30 years. He loves the kids, and still works full time.

He told me he is considering retirement because of the amount of paperwork required now. It is so much redundant unnecessary bullshite it takes time from patients.

We’ve had a HDHP for about 2 years now. It really opened my eyes to how terrible the medical billing world and charge codes can be.

Quite honestly, this is probably the biggest reason we haven't moved to an HDHP. I know it's cheaper and there are great benefits with an HSA.

But the knowledge of what my co-pays will be ahead of time (even if they are billed months after the fact) basically allows me to say, hey, medical billing is someone else's problem.

I pay cash to get the cash discount (I have a high deductible that I never meet). I say I have "no insurance" because some places won't give you the cash discount if you have insurance.

50% of the time, I subsequently receive a bill for the cash discount amount.

Is there anyone that would actually complain if someone else called in and paid their medical bills for them?

I was going to say that too. If I walked in to a doctors office and announced I was flipping the bill for everyone in the room there would literally be no one complaining about it except maybe a feminist.

I took my kid in June 2018 to her pediatrician for a "physical" that she needed to attend a camp. Our co-pay is $25 and the doc ALWAYS collects it right when we get there. When I was there, I was told that since it was a physical, it would count as our annual "wellness visit" and there was no co-pay. Fair enough.

Fast forward to last week, or 11 months after the visit. I get a bill from LCMC (her pedi is part of a medical group owned by them)... for $25, from the visit in June 2018. The bill shows that insurance company paid whatever and my co-pay which is due is $25.

I call LCMC's financial line, wait 20 min on hold, and finally get a clueless woman who basically says it's not their fault, they submitted the claim "correctly". They say to call Blue Cross.

I call Blue Cross, wait 15 min on hold, and get a lady that basically tells me that LCMC submitted the claim but didn't use the "wellness visit" code, and that I can certainly contact LCMC and ask them to resubmit.

Having wasted enough time, I say F it, it's $25, I'll just pay it.

I go online last night to pay the bill. You can only pay the bill if you have an account with them. You can only set up an account with them if you have an authorization code from your doctor. F it, doc is closed for the night, I'll just call and pay tomorrow.

So this morning I call to pay. 25 minute wait on hold. Finally get a nice woman on the phone, who at first wouldn't let me actually pay the bill because my wife was listed as the guarantor. She finally agrees to accept my payment if I can verify us. She asks me a bunch of verification questions on my wife's info, which I know all of the answers. Finally, she says, ok, I'll take your payment over the phone, and it's handled.

I know HIPPA scares the everliving hell out of medical companies. But there is no way, no how, the intention of HIPPA would be to make it a PITA to make a payment.

We might have the greatest doctors in the world, but the supporting system is just terrible.
You realize you just spent more than $25 in your time typing all of that out, right?

I hate lcmc. I’ve been billed for so much stuff that is due to their errors I’ve probably wasted 12 hours of phone time sorting out. Their billing dept is a dumpster fire

I think they grew waaaayyyy too fast. Medically they may be fine, but administrative they seem to be struggling with their size.

All of the topical steroids we write are not cosmetic and medically indicated. But when I first started Desonide cream was like $20, now one 60gram tube is $646. It's crazy.

You should tell them you sent a check right after the visit but it was void 180 days later.

Not your fault.
The funny thing is, some states he would be halfway through the Statute of Limitations on a Credit Card bill, yet Medical Bills usually have a 10 year SoL.
