What are some examples of this done really well? Good characters that go evil I would say are harder to write well compared to evil characters who redeem themselves.
Dany and Anakin come to my mind first and neither were done very well IMO.

I did think of this after posting but he always seemed like the lessor of evils compared to other characters in the show.

Can one say Vic Mackey was ever “good”?

Boyd Crowder's circular arc in Justified is amazing

Other than the women, this was the best part of the show.

William Hurts character in Body Heat (1981) was my first thought. Kind of have to include Fred McMurray's character in Double Indemnity (1944) too.

Anakin
Never should’ve been a “good” character. JK Rowling did a magnificent job showing how Voldemort was always conflicted and on the edge. That would’ve been a much more believable turn for Anakin.
Dany should’ve just gone and blown up the Red Keep. It would’ve still given her that Mad Queen and fear aspect. Without completely shitting all over everything she’d done so far.
Michael Corleone would be the best choice for me.

Jack Bauer on 24. By the end of the series, he was very damaged guy that was a fugitive from the law although everything he did was to defend the nation no matter the cost.

I can see that but that would have changed everything. If Anakin was a troubled kid from the beginning Yoda and the council would have never let someone in the order train him. They could have had Qui-gon or Obi-wan leave the Jedi to train him but Obi-wan leaving to train him doesn't make much sense.
Voldemort was evil from the beginning IMO. I don't think it was an edge thing. Kids who kill animals to hurt another kid's feelings is grade A psycho.

That’s not much different than how it went down. Qui Gon and Obi Wan both threatened to leave.
And I’m not saying he should’ve been pure evil. Just more brooding and maybe using his powers already. More confused.

I remember Qui-Gon mentioning it but when did Obi-Wan?
If they ran the Qui-Gon leaving the Jedi the story would have had to be very different. First off Qui-Gon would have had to survive Maul. Then Qui-Gon would have had to take him some place other than Coruscant to train him. Being associated with the Jedi put Anakin in the Clone Wars and had him interacting with Palpatine and Padme. That's a very different story.

I’d say Currently Cobra Kai is doing a tremendous job with this. Showing complicated characters that aren’t good nor bad. Johnny Lawrence is a phenomenal example of fallen from grace and bad apple, struggling to try to be good.
