How about Anakin is naturally very gifted, not because of special germs in his blood but just because the Force wills it. But he's also impatient and a bit amoral.
Palpatine, rather than coming out as an over the top comic book mustache-twirling villain, consolidates power in a way that leads to a civil war. The Jedi Order intend to stay out of the civil war politics. Anakin starts fighting alongside Palpatine's loyalists which includes Naboo because he's fricking Padme and she supports Palpatine.
Jedi Council casts Anakin out and Palpatine starts convincing him the Jedi Order is his enemy. Yada yada yada, Jedi realize Palpatine is a Sith, yada yada they get involved with the civil war but by now it's too late, yada yada Anakin and Palpatine and the Empire's army have decimated most of the Jedi. Padme finally realizes Palpatine is evil and joins the resistance. She gives birth in secret. She is eventually apprehended by Anakin/Vader for being a resistance leader and he straight up kills her for betraying Palpatine.
I just whipped that up in 5 minutes and it's 100x better than Lucas's bullshite.

Thought about John but he never really went bad. He just did not really go bad. He did not agree with a lot of the others but he did not go bad like Walter White

Locke’s legacy was redeemed by Jack, so I don’t think that counts. He’s more just a tragic figure:

I did think of this after posting but he always seemed like the lessor of evils compared to other characters in the show
Did we watch the same series?

Walt was a lessor evil compared to Tuco, Gus, Todd, and Jack IMO. All shitty yes but that’s kind of what the show was. Which drug lord comes out on top.

JK Rowling did a magnificent job showing how Voldemort was always conflicted and on the edge.
Umm Voldemort was never conflicted. He was torturing kids at like 9 years old. Murdering by 16.

James McGill's transformation to Saul Goodman is pretty good.

Brody in Homeland on showtime is another good one.
