quote:
When I ask him if the philosophy is a result of the toxic culture in his previous job, he bristles slightly. (It’s the only moment in our two days together that I detect a glimmer of defensiveness or sarcasm.) “You can’t think of it as like a light switch. Like ‘Oh, now I know what toxic culture is.’ That’s not the way it goes. I always knew what was really important to me, and I knew what was the right thing to do. I didn’t want to keep standing by when I knew that things could be better. ... “How I managed that has been a culmination of successes and failures. There are things that I regret not doing earlier — or saying earlier. Or standing up (about) earlier. “At some point, you need the team to be around you to truly live up to the potential. And when the team around you and the people that have power and money and influence around your businesses aren’t there right alongside you carrying that torch, it says that things need to change.”

What is up with these websites and using huge-arse font for their titles?

Built his name and brand on that 'toxic culture' only to burn them to the ground when it became obvious BRG wasn't going to give up everything they had built.
Spent a lot of money distancing himself and protecting his name from the culture he was a part of for a long time.

A little hyperbolic there
He was never personally accused of harassing anyone or engaging in improprieties with anyone unlike Besh. I get that he’s a shameless self promoter but let’s be accurate here.

You mean criminally named, right?
Posted on 5/14/19 at 6:24 pm to REG861
He sat around watching crimes happening but held his mouth shut because he wanted to advance his career

Food is great at both places.

Maybe you should reread Brett Anderson’s report. He disciplined/fired employees more than once. Yea he milked the PR game to paint a more sympathetic picture but I’m not going to call him a rapist like besh. The report isn’t nearly as hard on him as you’d like.
we have no idea what he knew or if he knew that besh was sexually assaulting employees. There wasn't an HR department to report anything to and the girls were discouraged from reporting it out of fear of retaliation so they couldn't exactly air out their grievances. If Shaya is to be believed, then he asked for HR departments so this sort of thing could come to light. I'm sure he knew Besh was a womanizer and general sleazeball but excuse me if i'm not ready to convict him as an accessory to rape based off the fact that his line cooks told dirty jokes.

Accessory to rape? I'm just talking about how it was stated, by former workers, that he was one of 'the boys club' at the pool parties. Social media aired out a lot more dirty laundry than Brett did.
Then he starts an 'all inclusive feel good' company and crafts a holier than thou image.

I wonder why he didn't congratulate Kelly Fields on herJames Beard win. He posted IG congrats for several other winners. That seemed petty, even if Willa Jean is a BRG place.

Well im glad this came up because I make his hummus and started some tonight but didn’t have onough tahini so I cooked them and put in the icebox and I’ll finish tomorrow. They are a project but man the reward of the creaminess is worth it.
But I have a question. Watching his 3 minute video making it what is the white cream he puts at the end? He says garnish with more tahini but it’s too white. Maybe plain yogurt?
Actually 2:22 seconds
I like the guy and I don’t know anymore than what’s been published so hope he’s learned his lesson, is sincere and moves forward.
And these are the chickpeas after the come out of the oven with baking soda. You can see the skins coming off which is the key.

Lord pissed off the Palestinians. But man it’s good hummus I don’t care who claims it.

Well at the end of the day Shaya is still working in the industry openly while Besh has gone silent. I see where Aaron Sanchez recently bought him out of Johnny Sanchez and is planning to change the name. Besh I believe is still a partner in BRG and hasn’t been completely cut out like Mario Batali.
The two of them could team with Paula Deen and start a new cooking channel and banishment or not it would be better then the crappy competition/reality/game shows on Food Network and I would watch. Resurrect the old Frugal Gourmet shows and film it in Folsom Prison.
And believe it or not (and the fans are going to mash their bags at this) I saw Besh a couple months ago at Bucees in Katy, Texas. He was at the pump next to me and commented on how big and yes clean the place was and he had a big sack of Jerky.

I'm not sure but I bet it's some lebneh based sauce. Perhaps lebneh with yogurt or tahini. I love lebneh BTW and he uses it some of his other recipes in his cookbook which is awesome. His cauliflower humus recipe is fantastic.
I didn't realize he baked the beans before the boil. I'll try that next time.
