On John Beilein to Cleveland: During my reporting on the college basketball federal investiagation, one integral source described the former Michigan man as: “The only high-major head coach I’m sure has never cheated.” For him to leave college hoops is pretty telling.

Tweets like the above are common on twitter today and on ESPN panels

Beilein did just fine vs cheaters at Michigan, so I think he left because he thrives on being a rebuilder.

Great coach and great man, Cleveland better treat him well!

Sounds like Michigan is about to go on sanctions.

Michigan fans are going to eat this shite up. No fanbase loves the smell of their own “we cheat less than everyone else” farts more than those douchers.

beilein knew exactly what to say on his way out.

Joe Paterno when asked if he would consider a pro football coaching job: "No, I can't leave this game to the Barry Switzers and Jackie Sherrills of this world."

This is just some bozo on Twitter trying to drum up clicks and smoke where none exist.

It's not as if college basketball hasn't been "dirty" for the 30+ years Beilein has been a coach. Hell, it's probably "cleaner" now that it was decades ago. We just didn't have the level of media attention and, more importantly, social media to bring those issues to light.

I promise you, NOTHING about what has come up in the FBI investigation surprised Beilein. He's leaving Michigan (a good, solid program) to take a swing at coaching at the highest level while the opportunity is there. He's 66. He knows that if he passes on this chance it is very unlikely he would have another shot.

The guy has worked his way up from HS all the way to just short of the top of the college basketball mountain (two championship game losses). Outside of winning the title, he has nothing left to accomplish in CBB. Now he can give the NBA a shot before he hangs it up

He just signed a five year deal at the age of 66, when his stock happens to be higher than ever. This means five years of being in the game with low expectations and not having to recruit ever again. I see this move as a sign that he’ll retire at 71.

How dirty it's getting? It's been dirty for decades. Football and basketball. He's just making excuses.

He left because he was tired of being second banana to Harbaugh and football despite have more success. Harbaugh and FB rule UM. Johnny Orr and Bill Frieder left for the same reasons.
