Overall selection where I live is better and has much more interesting food.
But the downside is that good cajun restaurants are hard to come by. The only thing that surprised me that I found is lacking in most other cities than BR is the Mediterranean food / Lebanese food. BR has some of the best and most authentic that you'll find. I've been to Chicago's greek town area and I've tried this cuisine in many different cities and at many different places in my town and it doesn't hold a candle to what BR has.
All the other ethnic food is pretty much better in bigger cities. Asian and Mexican are world's better in TX.

Texas, especially Houston and Dallas, have some damn good Asian.
I'm biased, but I don't think many places do Mexican or BBQ better than Texas. BBQ is definitely more subjective since I prefer brisket.

I've lived away from Louisiana for 8 years in Columbia, MO and Baltimore, MD. This is what I learned:
We are fortunate to have authentic Mexican restaurants in South Louisiana. I guess it's b.c. we are not that far from the border.
It's not like that in the Midwest. Shockingly, neither the East Coast.
In Baltimore, there is no such thing as a Chinese buffet. Chinese is order out. I found one buffet in the suburbs and it was terrible.
Don't waste your money on Midwest seafood.

Simple plate lunch Pilaf, cut schwarma, humus, and a greek salad.... should be as standard as cheeseburger and fries.
I'd find it hard to believe that you can't find something equally as good in San Diego or San Fransisco but I haven't tried those cuisines in those cities so I won't pretend to know any better.
That being said I do think the Lebanese food is pretty good in Baton Rouge for the most part.

Not even close. The food in Florida is made for people from the north who think pepper is hot and spicy. There have been a few places that have opened in my area by people from Louisiana and some have been good but not as good as food from Louisiana.

I absolutely love Cajun and Creole food. LA is somewhat unique in that it has its own food culture and cuisine that has been around for centuries. Over that time, restaurants and even home cooks have learned to cook those dishes better than anyone in the country. Even if it's not traditional Cajun or Creole, cooks are using lessons from their native food and applying them to other cuisines with great results.
I agree that this rich history makes LA the home of some REALLY great food covering many different cuisines. But to say places like SF, Chicago, NYC, Houston, etc., other places with rich ethnic cultures, don't have amazing food as well? Nah..gotta disagree strongly.

The variety is better than in BR. I lived in the Northeast and now Atlanta, and it’s considerably better. Italian, Asian and Portuguese/Spanish to name a few. Sure there are things you can’t get or make yourself, but on the whole it’s better. I make a good jambalaya, gumbo and etouffee. Other than boudin, what else do you need? And maybe finding good sausage.

Food elsewhere is nowhere as good as in LA. The handful of things that are keepers in TX are BBQ and beef fajitas at Lupe's. Everything is else is relatively bland.
Heck, there's more flavor in a bite of Popeyes spicy than most other ethnic dishes.

I currently live in Austin, surrounded by Tex-Mex and tacos, yet I still can't find a place that will live up in my mind to fricking Las Palmas in BR. We used to go there so much in college that I have built it up to be much better than it is.

BR's Lebanese scene is criminally underrated. I've been to many cities who can't come close to matching what BR has for Lebanese food.

Georgia has never been an elite BBQ state, but Atlanta is hitting its stride in no small part because we've got several Texas-influenced places making great brisket and combining that with very good pulled pork that is difficult to find in Texas.
