But you're right - the $210MM would make a nice downpayment.

The Superdome honestly blows. If it wasn’t for the location, it wouldn’t be as recognized. As far as modern amenities and niceness it is the worst in the NFC South.

A new bridge in Baton Rouge doesn't generate tax dollars...

I’d love to seem a revenue comparison between cost / revenue for the renovating of the Superdome vs a new bridge.

One could argue neither will in fact produce any increased revenue at all. It’s unlikely ticket price increases will recoup anywhere close to the expenditure. Nor will a bridge miraculously attract new businesses. Traffic on I-10 won’t reroute just because there isn’t a new bridge. If a new bridge attracted a new plant, then chances are high our legislators would give them tax breaks in excess of the anticipated revenue anyways.

But, renovating the Superdome will in fact once again make it a more interesting location for various other events thus generating more revenue.

Objectively the Superdome would make more sense imho even if subjectively I’d love a new bridge to get some relief on the roads here.

Benson & Saints have La. by the proverbial balls.

Since Saints fans vote, and are statewide, what Benson wants, Benson gets.

So, traffic backs up from Lafayette to Baton Rouge and from Hammond to Baton Rouge.

But, Superdome gets renovated, Saints fans happy, Benson widow keeps getting richer, and Louisiana taxpayers get it up the arse.

I was low balling the numbers the state would contribute on purpose. It’s more likely to be $300 million+. The bridge in West Feliciana cost the state about what it’s going to cost for these renovations.

Tell Gayle it will have to wait for another day.

What's gonna really suck is that after all this renovation to the Dome happens, Gayle is still gonna come to the state the year before the lease expires and say "I want a NEW stadium!"

"But Ms Benson... We spent so much money on the old one..."

"I don't care. NEW!"

You actually think a new bridge would resolve this...?

They need to figure that cluster frick 110/I-10 interchange first...

As far as Hammond to BR... they need to widen 1-12...

I actually believe the bridge would generate local business, alleviate some of the stresses on local business, encourage more commerce between south Louisiana cities and towns and bring a physical embodiment of the people’s will for the state to improve through one landmark.

Maybe I’m too egalitarian but this doesn’t pass the smell test.

ETA: Fap Sam, I said the $210 because I knew about what the Stadium and Exposition District was paying. I didn’t know the state was on the hook for the remaining $90 million. If you add the $90 that the “state” is claimed to pay then you get $300 milllion.

Louisiana spent millions renovating the scoreboards 2 years ago.

As a Louisiana citizen and tax payer I am for my money that goes to renovating a place that hosts so many different events along with my favorite football team. It serves so much entertainment services. I really don’t give a frick about a bridge in BR.

I’m more surprised he didn’t say something like he went to school with the builder and helped give him the design

Agreed. The problem is the layout east of the bridge. A loop is the only solution to the problem.

A loop for BR would cost billions and take decades
