How much was spent 14 years ago to update it after Katrina?

So adequate infrastructure doesn't help business development?

Yeah that's an ignorant statement. The bridge impacts travel through the southern part of the state as well as among 3 of our 4 largest cities.

It's not like there's a large population of people living west of the Mississippi commuting to BR daily. That's not why we need to build it.

ETA - I meant the poster you were replying to not you

The concourses are narrow, considering all the fatties and drinkers who stand in the way of foot traffic.

Couldn't find a single water fountain there, either.

To wreak havoc, Ahmed doesn't have far to get from the exterior to interior, either (see: narrow concourse).

The only thing I don't understand is getting rid of the sloping walkways from upper levels. The ushers joked back in the 90s that it was built that way to allow the drunks to roll to the bottom.

Yep. Fat people have ruined so much in this country.

$336 million when it was all said and done. The feds gave the city about half of that.

Which like I said earlier is a drop in the bucket. The financial impact it has on the city has to be in the tens of billions in just the timeframe since it was reopened.

I wonder why

I might be wrong but isn’t getting rid of those how they plan to expand the upper concourse?

I'd be curious of the numbers. I think it would have more of an impact than the Dome, but I don't have any studies to back that up.

Even outside of the tax impact, it's a Quality of Life issue for the citizens of the state. The people who live and work in the BR Metro area deserve better.

Do you mean studies against the dome renovation versus building a bridge? Because something like that will never merit a study. People are forgetting that this would be a third bridge in the same area, building a new one isn’t going to have some insane impact on the economy but it would improve it.

quote:

Since the Superdome reopened in 2006, events there have had a fiscal impact of $4.1 billion on the Louisiana economy, according to a study by the University of New Orleans. By 2025, the end of the Saints' current lease, the Superdome is projected to have a total fiscal impact of $19.9 billion.

Obviously those numbers aren’t exact but it gives you an idea

No, just the economic impact of a new bridge. It looks like from your quotes that UNO has taken care of calculating the impact of the dome.

Of all the things I will never miss about living in the south, the assumption that everything must be a zero sum game would be near the top

Does Ascension Parish really deserve 2 bridges that cross the Mississippi River?
