But you can't attain that type of physique without steroids, HGH or PED's and I don't see how that should be respecte.
For a couple of years in college and right after I dated the sister of former Ms. Olympia Cory Everson and got to know some of the top-level male bodybuilders of the time. Without question they were some of the most insecure, narcissistic knuckleheads and drama queens I've ever met.

Hope you don’t respect anyone in crossfit either. Or half the NFL, probably a good bit of the NBA, as well as the MLB. Most of them are using some type of performance enhancing drug. Its just more obvious in bodybuilding.
Frick you can probably walk into any decent sized gym (except for planet fitness) in America and probably 20-25% of the members are using some type of PED

No doubt. You gotta be a narcissist and probably have body dismorphia to want to do it. You have to have a screw loose.

Because they set out to do something 99% of people can't do and accomplished it. The drugs don't negate the sacrifice, work, and commitment those guys make. Just because you or I never want to look like them doesn't mean you shouldn't respect the effort that goes into it.
Same idea as elite powerlifting. Guys deadlifting and squatting 1000+ pounds are generally fat, unhealthy, and juiced up. But they work incredibly hard and achieve what most cannot (even if they juiced up). You can't take that away because someone's juiced up.

I really don't care what others do to their bodies but if using illegal substances to reach the top when others are not is to me not respectable. Lance Armstrong obviously had talent, trained hard and reached the top of the cycling world but I have no respect for the guy. And I admired Barry Bonds for his athletic talent but certainly don't respect him for how he had to cheat to break the HR record. And I think a lot also has to do with the fact that I think the bodybuilder look is asinine but obviously others like it, to each their own.

When the whole pro bodybuilding game is filled with juicers you have no choice but to juice to reach the top. It's not like any of them are claiming to be natural. Arnold himself has admitted to some roid use.
Most, if not all, of the top echelon elite athletes also are on PEDs they just have professionals helping them not get caught and then once in a while they get popped.
Stop being naive. Wanna see sports without PEDs? Go look at football players in the 50s

Yeah well the guys in the ‘50s were a lot meaner and tougher than the guys who play now. All that power and athleticism, and all they do is bitch. Or at least some of them. I’m all for a safe game of football, but it’s a collision sport. Get mean or get rekt. But that’s a different topic so enough of this

Naive? I know full well what guys are doing to reach the top. I'm just saying cheating is never respectable, you think it is. Agree to disagree.

Is it cheating if it’s allowed and every competitor is doing it?

How can it be cheating if it's allowed?

You mean like Johnny Atlas?

There are tested and untested federations. It is not cheating in untested. Same with powerlifting and strongman.
Everyone complaining about it are bitching over nothing. It's not cheating if everyone is doing it and the rules are spelled out.
And people respect the work that goes into it, the dedication it takes.
Imo they all look like shite lol, but who am I to judge when I could never come close to anything resembling a top level competitive bodybuilder, strongman or powerlifter.

I knew a couple, nice folks, he was former body builder and she was fitness or physique I think.
Over a few years got to know them well enough to have good conversations. He said you needed 3 things to do well, he had the first 2. 1st commitment and work ethic; 2nd good to insane genetic bodyshapes, and 3rd high drug tolerance, i.e. the ability to take a lot of drugs while managing the side effects and long-term damage. He said he could only take the light stuff in low does, anytime he tried to use the legit stuff his body couldn't handle it. Last I heard from him years ago both of them had retired from bodybuilding style competitions.

I think we agree on cheating not being respectable, but where we differ is considering PEDs cheating. In an environment where everyone's using them is it cheating to use them? Is it cheating if your goal is something that is beyond natural human limits? Is it cheating if the rules do not explicitly ban PEDs?

All of these guys would still be bigger than you if they were natural.
But sure...blame your small pecs on other people using steroids.

I hate when people say this. It's usually a 5'10, 175 pound dude with love handles saying the only difference between his 275 max on deadlift and Eddie Hall's 1100 max is Eddie Hall juices.
Elite strength athletes are combinations of elite genetics, hard work and potentiation of that through PED's. PED's raise the upper limit, but hard work still gets you there.

It’s the majority of it let’s be honest. I’d say 75+%.
You don’t look like that following a strict diet and working hard

Of course it is, if they are banned. In your scenario it just means everyone is a cheating, which I would guess is the case in sports like cycling and professional bodybuilding at the top level.

I don't care what an individual puts in their body if it's not harming others. But if they are competing in a sport where PED's are banned but some are using PED's while others are not it's obviously cheating. How can that even be argued?

So you dig on chicks who don’t wear make-up, shave their legs, and definitely no fake tits or fake tan for you?

I don't understand your argument.
You keep saying in a sport where PED's are banned. The olympia is not banning PED's.
