I think Mayor Broome has a choice.

St. George is a forgone conclusion. She needs to quit bitching and let it go, Those are not her voters anyway.

Now, she has a hole in her budget, and some white ‘do-gooder’ handlers who are looking out for downtown who have led her astray. She can let BTR rot and decline or do something, but it is unpopular.

What, you say? Well, it’s use the new ITEP rules, like the school board did, and tax Exxon. That’s her choice to fill the budget. Elsewise, a sesspool is a brewin’

Exxon would be wise to go with it, and assist with better leadership, too, or the whole BTR frick up will crumble. It’s the marketplace at work.

She ups the taxes on Exxon and it accelerates the decline IMHO.

The BR plant is one of the largest in the world but it will get more and more outdated if they defer maintenance and improvements because the city government has its hand out.

If they get a good ROI on the updates, they are gonna do them no matter if she cuts their tax breaks or not. Too much money invested there to just dump it like people would have you believe

The issue is that Exxon has absolutely no trust in EBR or EBRPSB to play fair after the last set of updates they did only to get fricked on the credits because EBRPSB got greedy.

They’re not going to spend a shite ton of money under certain rules only to have them change after the fact. Like a city suing an unincorporated area to change the rules for incorporation after the fact.

Mayor Broome made her choice.
She could have remained neutral and let folks in SG take care of their own business, took the high road, and prepared BR for change.

Instead she decided to play politics, fight for the status quo, block change, and work to stop a grassroots issue to feather her political nest. She took the typical Democrat road.

I hope she’s a one trick pony.

I agree totally, but in fairness that whole scenario is the result of EBR having a Mayor-President. If EBR was changed to having a Parish President and the City of BR a separate mayor office, then there would be no conflict of interest between precisely who the Mayor-Presidents should be representing,

I don’t see how this ends well for her.

If St Geoege succeeds in spite of her, you can pretty much line up Zachary, Central, and St George in the Anyone But SWB column.

Theoretically Baker and BR stay behind her but if their bennies get cut because St George pulled out, she might actually get the deserved blame for it.

What a fricking idiot.
Yes, bite the hand that feeds you. Moron.

Secondly, legislation just passed to remove the retarded local politicians from the itep process just for the reasons you stated.

You think you can tax your way to fiscal responsibility. However, that’s not how it works. And savvy business people don’t want to invest in subsidizing your unbalanced budget.

provide services commensurate with your tax revenue. It’s pretty fricking simple.

How, exactly, does Exxon ‘feed’ BTR?

I am a believer in St. George, but I would tax Exxon to fill in for the difference. The workers at Exxon generally don’t live in BTR, they come from surrounding areas.

Exxon no longer lets employees leave for lunch, so there is no longer even a marginal sales tax from that for BTR.

Most of the contractors for Exxon ar not based in the City of BTR but in WBR, St. George or other areas.

Please explain how Exxon benefits the City of BTR other than a few volunteers at functions, and lip service.

Like I said, Mayor Broome ought to let St. George incorporate - they didn’t vote for her anyway. Tax Exxon for the difference.

And before you start you bullshite that Exxon will leave and all that, they won’t.

Exxon makes - some say $3 billion, but let’s be generous and say $1 billion from the BTR plant. $50 million tax against $1,000 million will not make Exxon do anything but try to run a PR campaign and cry but they will not move.

Not for $50 million against $1,000 million in profits. Shut your whore mouth if you think otherwise.

I don't think you understand this issue. And I don't think you understand what white flight actually is.

Can you find me a quote that says minorities aren't allowed to live in the proposed city?

A minority couple was looking at a house for sale in my neighborhood last week. I did my duty and reminded them they were in future St George. It was a close one.

Whatever man, don’t really know or care about St. George but from an outsider looking in answering the question OP asked it looks like a bunch of angry white people scared of NBR and SBR
