If you don't want to participate don't.
I feel same way so I just don't.

The constant need to out-cheap each other on the internet when it comes to weddings is the weirdest phenomenon.

It's kinda sad if you have never been asked to be in a wedding. I'm an a-hole and I have been in 4 and best man in 1.

To answer your question, yes, I've been in several weddings and it's always fun. I probably have a few more that I'll be in, in the future, too.

In general I actually like to be in a wedding. The only thing you are really obligated to pay for is the tux. You get taken care of, get a ride to the event, and get to hang out with your closest friends for a couple days.

Definitely sounds like you’ve never been in one and are jealous of people that get invited to be in one. Just my opinion. That’s how people how people act when they are jealous. “Id never want to win a million dollars, too much of a headache to deal with lawyers and family that want money.”

Yes...
I have a burgundy velvet bridesmaid dress, a burgundy regular dress, lavender, yellow and navy blue. BTW: none of them could be cut off and worn again.

I wont do any more unless its a long term friend.

Its miserable and expensive. The groom has so little to do with how that day goes. I don't enjoy getting barked at by bride, MIL, bridesmaids, aunts, great aunts, etc etc about what to wear, when to be there, how much not to drink.

its a giant favor to be in a wedding for someone, not an honor.... unless you aren't paying for anything.

This is a weird way to tell us that you have no friends.

If you had friends, you would gladly spend the money and time to be involved in their big day.

My wife has spent more time and money on a wedding that she is in this weekend than ours. Bridal shower, bachelor party, rehearsal dinner, wedding day etc.

Sorry your wife's friends are poor. I've been in several weddings and I have never incurred any expenses other than wedding gift and chipping in to buy groom's booze, lap dances at bachelor party.

Why would your wife be paying for rehearsal dinner? That's the groom's parents responsibility.

What's she paying for on wedding day? I'm very confused.

ETA:

When I got married, my wife's parents covered all dresses and tuxes for the wedding party. They also covered hotel rooms for everyone at the Royal Sonesta. It was a 3 day party.
