You should consider carry insurance of some sort. I use USCCA, but there are other good ones. Anyone that carries should have this.

If I was 100% sure he was not holding a weapon, I'd have got out and beat his arse.
But that's just me....
On second thought, if he was wearing a vest, he's prob a road construction worker. So maybe let him smack you and sue the balls of his employer...

Shoot him. Throw the body in the truck. Drop him off in the middle of the swamp.

Sure if you want to spend the rest of your life in prison but hey your tail light might be worth it.
Do yourself a favor. Go take a conceal and carry class even if you don’t plan on carrying. They teach you all the right and wrong situations to use a firearm. It is not as black and white as you might think.

Brandishing a weapon =
Dwayne T. Robinson:
I got a hundred people down here and they're all covered in glass.
John McClane:
Glass? Who gives a shite about glass? Who the f*** is this?
Seriously. You’re supposed to wait fir the aggressor to pull a gun before you even pull it from your hiding spot? You’ll be dead unless you’re OJW. I’m sure you could look at videotape of the station area to justify your action.

Do you trust your hands? If so, I wouldn't even carry a gun on a holster.
I know y'all don't agree with me, but I'm telling you, almost every situation I see where someone gets killed, would have been avoided by not having a gun ready to go, on your hip..just fight with your hands....
I figured this out a while back. We, as in people on an outdoors message board, are 100 percent, or somewhere close to at least,Are rednecks.
Two type of people carry guns on them, gangsters who sell drugs and are constantly being robbed by other drug dealers or by stick up crews that just target drug dealers. The other type that carry are rednecks, and they usually won't pull one on you as long as you don't pull one or have one on you, unless there pussys and are scared to death of anyone that threatens them.
My point is, leave the gun in the truck, if you can conceal, then conceal, if not, then put it where you can get to it if you had to.. But just stay away from the gangsters and fight rednecks with your hands and you would be fine...
If you pulled ur gun on that guy ,just to scare him, that paranoid, prolly on Meth for a week without sleep, would have blown you away if he was holding a gun on his waist.
Just cuz you don't carry a gun on you, doesn't mean you can't enjoy your gun and collect them and whatever else you like to do.
I'm just saying, that gun will get you killed quicker then it will save you.
Plus, a jury and a good prosecutor could take that self defense claim and twist it out of control... Would you like to know what the charge is? Second degree murder, which carries a mandatory, life without parole, in Louisiana. If you want to see what that's like... Go to the o-t lounge on tigerdroppings, find the thread about the guy that got killed in Mississippi, now click on the first link you see... It May not be on the front page anymore, but u can find it. It's got a link in the first message of the thread...
Now, keep that gun on you, you end up dead, or hanging out with that sorry piece of shits twin brother in jail, hes the one in the link
....could you imagine hanging out in that cell with those dudes? Please tell me when y'all see the video.

I had a similar situation where I pulled my gun. I was pumping gas and got back in my truck. When I went to close the door a guy with no shirt on and a bandana around his head grabbed my left arm trying to pull me out. He was yelling and cursing.
I grabbed my Glock 19 with my right hand(had it in a magnet holster on right side of steering column). I put the gun right up to his head and told him I was about to blow his fricking brains out. He backed up. I shut my door and he continued to curse and picked up some rocks and threw at my truck. I ended up driving off not even calling the cops. It was Baton Rouge 5 pm and would have taken forever to get them out to write a report.
I really felt like the guy was trying to get me out of my truck to either hurt me or steal my truck. Either way with him preventing me from closing the door and trying to drag me out of the seat I felt like my life was in danger even though I never saw a weapon. If he wouldn’t have retreated I probably would have shot him.

This might be some of the worst advice I’ve ever seen.
While it’s good to have hand-to-hand skills for self defense, what happens when you get knocked unconscious and your family is at the mercy of a psycho? The lights are out for you and there’s nothing you can do. This also doesn’t take into account that one punch or thud against pavement can kill you. Just because you’re going hand-to-hand does not make the encounter non-lethal.
Firearms give you the benefit of distance. Regardless of a “tough-guy” attitude or whatever drug dealer stuff you were talking about, I’d rather have my own gun with me 20 feet from a threat than have no weapon and the threat inches away.
Responsible firearms owners aren’t looking for a fight of any kind. I don’t use my gun as a fighting implement - I use it as a last resort tool to either leave the danger zone or stop the threat. That’s all. Whatever use of my gun gets me away from danger quickest is what I hope to do in a given situation.

Jesus frick son. You ONLY pull out your pistol in defense of your life or someone else's life. There are no other instances where pulling the firearm can be justified. Your situation wasn't "life threatening" at that point.
Amen. OP, please educate yourself a little more. There should never have been a thought about pulling a weapon in that case. That line of thinking is why basic road rage cases turn violent. Deescalate the situation if you can or do as you did and leave. Don't engage.

1+
Tgerpride18 wants to go hand to hand, mono on mono, but what if the other guy doesn't want a gentlemanly hand fight? What if he intends to bring a concealed knife or gun to the fight? I don't think anyone here's going to take Tigerpride18's recommendations. Regardless, Bapple (as usual) give sound advice in his post.

You never pull a weapons as a means of deterrent.

“Studies indicate that firearms are used over 2 million times a year for personal protection, and that the presence of a firearm, without a shot being fired, prevents crime in many instances.”

Do not pull your pistol out at that point. Had you drawn and God forbid fired your gun, you would be in a legal bind to say the least. If he jumped on the hood or something, I might discreetly have my firearm in hand and would call the police.

Definition of deterrent (Merriam-Webster online)
1 : serving to discourage, prevent, or inhibit : serving to deter
We might be using different definitions of "deterrent."
One can justifiably use deadly force (e.g. a handgun) to prevent an an imminent attack (or deter an imminent threat) that one reasonably believes would result in the death of, or great bodily harm to, an innocent person.
If by "deterrent" you mean that we don't walk around with guns in our hands simply to discourage a lower level of potential attacks, you'd essentially be correct. That would get us into the realm of brandishing.
