I'm not sure if Lo Duca is still on TVG, but one time on TVG a few years back I heard him say something along the lines that if there is an inquiry during a horse race, the stewards tend to rule in favor of the house/Vegas/betting facilities (ie. whatever horse loses betting facilities the least amount of money), and that this was why horse racing was dying. Since TVG runs online betting I'm sure they didn't like the comment so he may not be in there anymore. My guess is that if Maximum Security winning the Derby meant that Vegas/otb's/betting facilities would lose less money than if Country House won the Derby than Maximum Security would not have been DQed.

What would Max Security have paid on say like $100 anyone know

They should make horse racing full contact. A racing joust of sorts.

War of Will’s jockey was whipping Maximum Security as he was pulling away. Is that not illegal? I didn’t watch afterwards to see if that was brought up but I’m sure it was.

Aspy- how did you do today? As customary I wasted some dollars on the Derby. I could have used that $1 super $$
My son liked the 7. I placed a $2 win bet for him and he was really excited for a while He said "he is done with horse racing"

That actually seems counter-intuitive...
Horse betting has dynamic odds and low payouts on a heavy favorite are less damaging than huge payouts on a long shot.

Paul was still there last year. Just haven’t seen him lately,
Not sure what he said about steward calls, but your description doesn’t seem to add up. With parimutuel betting, the house takes its cut off the top and does not care one bit which horse wins. It makes no difference to their bottom line.

He talks funny. Most would say “I am done with horse racing” in those circumstances,
I’m just messing with you.

Win
Think he was 4.5 - 1,so you win $450 on a $100 bet, which is a $550 payout.

Just watching a recording of TVG after the race. They were covering Oaklawn but watching the Derby of course.
Three of the commentators said it was “clear” there was interference, and one said the leader “unquestionably” would be taken down on a Wednesday $4,000 race. Should be taken down in this race,
But it was noted that a Breeders Cup horse who did worse was left up.
One said, “He was the best horse in the race, but he definitely interfered with two of them.”
This was all said before the official announcement was issued.
Those guys live and love the stuff, so I respect their opinions.
Sucks for me because I had a W bet on the DQ hoss.

Two of them said this was a typical move of Luis Saez to swing out like that.
Some have said it was just the horse being a goofy horse, but they didn’t think so.
One wondered if Saez could be suspended days, but another said surely having the Derby taken away was punishment enough.

It's interesting reading what the European press is saying about the Kentucky Derby. They are almost making fun of the stewards call. Seems as though if the race were in Europe Maximum Security would be the winner according to European rules.

Correct
Since you are betting against others and not a "house" it is zero sum after the facility and taxes take their cut. Remaing money is paid out zero so either a bunch of bets and small bets or a few bets and large payouts. Money paid out is still the same number.

IMO this race should have never been ran. All that mud and water is to dangerous for riders and horses. This disgusts me.
Yes, because horses never run in the rain or mud.
Go back to watching bowling

Nothing wrong with rain and mud.
Some horses like the mud and benefit from foul weather.
The issue is safety in an unsafe environment rain or shine. While the jock blamed the horse for veering out if it turns out he let him do so then the jockey will feel the heat at some point in the future. Athletes take short cuts in all sports to gain an uncompetitive advantage and racing is no different.
We will see.
