Your fear is causing you to miss out. Istanbul is a truly great city to visit.

I’m going to Istanbul in August. I’ll let the mayor know what we want.

you mean they aren't tearing down statues to repent for their centuries of oppression?

These kinds of threads are always fascinating to me. Everyone on Tigerdroppings acts like they have a perfect marriage and love being with their kids 24/7 and in reality I do not know a single person like this.
I’m sure you have the added expense of a nanny at the moment so funds might be tight.

Constantinople. Time to take it back from the Turks. I'd volunteer to fight in that Crusade.

The Hagia Sophia is a museum now, it’s neither mosque nor church.
And it’s not in great shape.

Most of western Turkey is completely safe. Now once you start going east of Adana it starts to get a bit dicey...Malatya wasn't too bad though.

Why? It was a mosque for nearly 500 years.

It’s impressive alright but it needs a McDonalds on the ground level corner end retail space that’s available.

definitely needs some work. Maybe give ole Jim Henderson with Rhino Shield a call, never have to paint again.
Seriously though, I couldn't imagine how much it would cost to completely restore the entire building. Mosaic work alone would be millions and millions of dollars, not even including the scaffolding required to reach the ceiling.

There's a McDonald's right up the road from it if you need it.

This scaffolding was in place when I visited in 2009. It looked quite precarious.
