Pablo Schreiber has been tapped as the lead in Halo, Showtime’s anticipated series based on the Xbox video game franchise.

Schreiber will play Master Chief, Earth’s most advanced warrior in the 26th century and the only hope of salvation for a civilization pushed to the brink of destruction by the Covenant, an unstoppable alliance of alien worlds committed to the destruction of humanity.

In addition, newcomer Yerin Ha will play a new character within the Halo world: Quan Ah, a shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both.

The series is produced by Showtime in partnership with 343 Industries, along with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and will begin production this fall in Budapest, Hungary.

I'm looking forward to this as much as anyone, but my inside sources had been saying things were not going well, and there is a 50/50 shot of a final product even being released. That was before this news, so hopefully things are trending up.

I love halo and the master chief story/ universe but I’m nervous this show won’t do it justice.

I feel if they are to really do it justice they need to go off the reach books and do a mix of books and game.

It needs a huge budget too, for adequate special effects.

I don't think they've come out with a number yet, but it's supposed to have a huge budget. Being on Showtime should be a good sign.

Kinda hoping this dude is just the body for the suit and Downes does the voice, but I seriously doubt that.

Anybody know if Schreiber sounds anything like Chief?

Watching a movie about a video game is only thing lazier and more unproductive than playing video games

I mean, he's had an interesting life no doubt. After selling his new sled and quitting the stevedores he moved to New York and almost killed an SVU detective. After that, i guess he joined the service and wrecked some shite at the benghazi consulate. Not content with merely being special forces, he decided to get gene spliced and become a super soldier. he's blasting off into space as the master chief as a result.

God Bless America!

They could go off straight game and it would be perfect.

There is a whole new generation of gamers to get sucked into the Haloverse that really never played CE

You guys are looking too hard at the shitty recent products of 343. The bulk of the universe-building team is at 343, not Bungie. While Bungie is the superior game developer, I have faith in 343 to handle the lore better. They got too ambitious with 4 and 5 and lost sight of what made the Halo games great, but the stories could still be told well through other mediums. Halo 4 and 5 launched from the Forerunner Saga, which was really good and well-written by Greg Bear.

As long as they just provide the larger themes and story-arcs and let experienced screen-writers build it, it can be great.

This universe is deep and rich. It would be great to start with the Fall of Reach, but doing the original trilogy would work, too.

If it's successful I'd love to see a side-project for Ghosts of Onyx. Kurt is the most badass Spartan and his story there is amazing.

I've read all of the books including Ghosts of Onyx, and while I really liked Kurt, I never felt he was more badass than the Master Chief.

What makes you think that? Genuinely curious.

I think his story would be probably better for movies or tv shows then the MC but there’s no way he can be more badass then the MC. Most of what he did being retired as a Spartan is train the Spartan IIIs. He didn’t fight the Covenant nearly as much and definitely not the flood.

Well, his teams would routinely beat John's during training missions. John had "luck", where Kurt had "feelings". These qualities set them apart from the other Spartans. Kurt actually saved Blue team during a mission where John led them into a trap because he ignored Kurt's feelings that there was a trap.

I liked his personality more than MC's, too. A more sociable, likeable dude. I think it was probably a tight race between him and John to be the leader of the S-IIs. It came down to Halsey's fetish for John.

And the way he want out setting off two nukes to buy time for Blue Team was always very badass to me. Yeah, Chief has more moments and a higher body count, but that could have just as easily been Kurt. Instead, he made his impact training the S-IIIs and ultimately sacrificing himself to save Blue Team...again.

He just made a huge impact on me the first time I read GoO. I've loved him ever since. It's admittedly a personal preference thing, but I dont think it's unreasonable to put him on John's level, skill wise.

EDIT - I will say that when it comes to overall most badass moments in the Haloverse, though...not much holds a candle to "To give the Covenant back their bomb."

Just what Halo fans ordered. Master chief fighting side by side with a petite little Asian chick.
