Dude, I've played over 4500 matches and I still think I'm not very good. I've gotten a lot better the past few months, but I still know there are a lot of areas I want to improve on and that's why I keep playing.
It just irks me when people shite on the game because they never gave it a chance, and their only response is that its a kids game. It no doubt has a younger audience, but to Pu's point it's just been introduced to two different generations. Some people from the older generation weren't as receptive to it than others.
I played when the first season dropped and hated it, and it wasn't until the end of season 4 that I tried it again and have been hooked since.

It is rough to get better at this game being older. The kids have all day to practice and play. I can't play till like 10PM when all the others are asleep in the house

I don't even think the time is it for me. I know I am not as twitchy as I used to be. My reflexes just are not as good as when I was a teenager.

My twitchiness is the same or better now (On PC now though). However, I am relearning how to play shooters from very bad habits from COD where I would go absolutely full peen at everyone because I would just respawn. I never played smart and hugged the outside of the map and picked off stragglers and kept my k/d high.
BR games have made me a better player in general. My K/D in BLOPs4 was like 3.5 compared to my K/D in Infinite Warfare which was like a 1.5.

BLOPS 4 counts assist as kills.
Never played Infinite but the old Dutys I played did not.
Edit: although you could really farm kills with killstreaks more in the old Dutys so maybe it evens it out.

I'm definitely not as twitchy as I used to be. I'm old I was playing 007 Goldeneye in college, then original Halo, Ghost Recon, etc. So Apex comes more naturally to me. But I could probably be half decent at Fortnite if I'd put enough practice time in.
