Are you fricking kidding me? You better keep those damn guns. Those Smiths are probably worth a lot more than they were when he bought them. Plus the sentimental value of keeping them in the family? Pssh...
I’d slap my girlfriend. And if she insisted on selling them, if y’all her into giving them to me.

At some point the family made the decision to trust him to make decisions for them. Sounds like your girlfriend has to abide by his instructions in this situation.

I'm not hiding anything. I realize I contradicted myself with that statement but I didnt tell the whole story because I didnt think I had to.
Both of us are in our 40s with grown children. She went up to her hometown in OK. because her mother fell ill. Her dad has had alzheimers for a fee years and the mother took care of him. Its looking like both will have to go to assisted living. At the time my gf was the only one there (she drove the 10 hours by herself up there immediately) with them caring for her Dad. Her brother showed up 4 days later. They both found the guns and came to the decision that she would take them here to Louisiana. So she did. A week later the brother wants her to drive back to OK for the sole purpose of returning the guns to him.
Dont get me wrong. I wouldn't mind the S&W 357 but I really dont need it. I was asking about means to sell the guns and maybe give that info to my girlfriend and hopefully her brother think it a good idea to just let us sell them for him and send him the money.
Was just looking for an alternative possibility to her driving them back up there to him just for him to sell them.

The OB is a great board. However, sometimes I wonder if I’m the smartest fool here...
Quit complaining, this isn’t your family so stay out of it. If you were married and had a child with her you might have some say, but even then I would personally stay out of it unless the family wanted my family to have them.

An alternative option would be ship them back to the rightful owner. You could even do an FFL transfer to be 100% legal. Let him pay the $15-50 transfer fee and be done with it.
Though, it’s clear you created the OP just to sell this property you have no claim too. You say you have a book that has gun values I am sure you are aware of the typical ways to market and sell used guns.

Well that's convenient because they are not yours.

Where and how do I go about selling these?
This is illegal. You can't sell a firearm you don't own. Best thing to do is give them to the brother and be done with it.

Don't get US wrong. In my opinion you've been given the correct advice from SEVERAL members on here. These aren't YOUR guns to make any decisions about. Whether you like it or not, your GF's brother has power-of-atty and whatever he decides is to be done should be done. However, he cannot demand that your GF DRIVE the guns back. Have her tell him that if he wants them back then he needs to arrange shipping and transfers or pay for the gas and time for her to drive them back.
If she talks to him and he accepts terms for her to sell them down here and then send him the money, then that's just as fine an outcome.
You or her selling the guns without his or the parents' permission is completely illegal and could get you and/or her in a whole lot of legal trouble if done.
I recommend you listen to what a bunch of us have told you and do the right thing.

You don't want to hear it, but the above is the answer. You and your girlfriend need to accept this, stop being petty, and move on.

OK, all kidding aside, you reeeaaally need to give those guns to the brother. FedEx them, it happens everyday. UPS is dropping off my new rifle this afternoon FWIW.
As Cave alluded to earlier, that brother can now say you sold property that wasn't yours....very illegal when it comes to guns.

I appreciate the suggestion and will probably have her go this route. I wasn't aware you could ship weapons thru the mail like that. Thank you.

Why didn't you go for a real clean out and throw some of grandpa's war medals over a bridge while y'all were at it? Nobody wants those...

He is a veteran. She never would have taken the guns but her brother wanted them out of the house since he has dementia from Alzheimers. Totally understandable.

If he has power of attorney and he has asked you for the guns, you could probably be charged with theft. You have zero legal right to these guns.

Take those to a pawn shop and be done with it, will take a lot of time, effort, and stress to sell.

My first response - you don't sell guns.
Second response - YOU don't do jack shite with them. They aren't yours.
