Seems awfully early for this.

there is some hindsight bias as well (the perfect CB pick from last year, saving us the pick used for Apple and allowing us to know what to theoretically target this year)

The Saints front office is a f@#king JOKE. They had one good draft for the past decade. They always trade up. Jimmy Johnson always say good teams trade down not up

Aka two idiots that don't know our roster (long term DE was a HUGE need), overlook what Davenport did and the fact that he will be a complete DE (extremely good against the run and the pass rush moves are coming along), and ignore that he was injured for a good part of the season and played decently through an injury that would keep most guys off the field.
I get the point of you could have had x and y instead. That's always valid. But another CB and whatever we could get this year was not even close to as pressing as a legit 3 down DE.

So, we hate PFF now on this board?
The saints did give up 430 first round picks for him so

35,000 sports podcasts “experts” out there looking to sound smarter. It’s been 1 year. I think the kid will be a beast when it’s all said and done. We will know more this year. No trade/pick is worthy of debate after just one year.

This was a bad trade last year period... only pass rusher from last years draft worth moving up for was Chubb... hindsight biggest need was a WR...

Davenport is a stud end in the making very quickly. Anyone who can’t see his talent is blind. Anyone critical of the trade at this very moment has an agenda to grind.

i mean. that's clearly not true in this case. PFF doesn't have an agenda

LOL
I think the Saints, and I agree, feel like elite DE's are very hard to come by and they think MD can be that.

I value picks so i dont totally disagree with them, but using hindsight to justify staying put is easy to do when you know what players turned out to be good and which ones didnt.
Yea we could have had Derwin James but maybe they would have drafted someone who turned out to be a bum.

LOL at anyone trying to break this shite down and determine who won
Saints
2018 14th(GB) - Marcus Davenport - would have won SB season after trade
vs
Packers
2018 27th(NO) + 76th(GB) + 186th(GB) = Traded To SEA - Jaire Alexander
2018 101st(CLE) + 147th(NO) = Oren Burks LB
2018 248th(SEA) - Kendall Donnerson LB
2019 29th(NO) - TBD
**Packers trade Randall + 5th for Kizer + 4th from Cleveland
Did not make playoffs, HC fired, team is a mess
vs
Seattle
2018 27th(GB) - Rashaad Penny RB
2018 76th(GB) - Traded to Pitt *Mason Rudolph QB
2018 79th(PITT) - Rasheem Green DE
2018 186th(GB) - Jacob Martin LB
2018 220th(PITT) - Alex McGough QB
rapidly replenished roster that had been eroding of talent and made a playoff push

Literally their only valid point, but is offset by the need at the position and the extremely high value of that particular position.
And we wound up winning that trade in value (if you go by the chart).

This is definitely where they lost it. Can't play that what if game.
It's also bullshite because they suggested we take James or Alexander instead, but they were long gone before our original pick.
And then they said we could take them AND someone in the first this year. That was literally impossible. We would still had to have used our first to trade up for either of them.
We could have stayed put and took Darius Leonard, but again that's hindsight and we also had just signed Davis and Te'o (or did we sign him later?), had an expensive Klein, and a hopeful good one in Anzalone. Not to mention a solid guy in Robertson to boot.

That's misleading because the only guy that kind of helped in that push was Penny. So Seattle didn't really do any better than GB.
To me it looks like we all got one good to great player, but I like Davenport's upside more than the others.

Not necessarily. The trade was obviously made with the intention of getting a player who would contribute immediately. Whether Davenport's impact was worth it is certainly debatable.

He was really good once he hit his stride until he got hurt. He was playing with a season ending injury for half the year.
I wouldn’t expect you to know that. Our pick ended up being #30 which is practically the second round. It’s also well known you HATED the trade up at the time. This isn’t shocking
