re: Are we giving WW a pass in all this and only blaming the Admin?

Why hasn't Alleva gone to Wade's house, knocked on his door, and said "let's iron this out just you and me, no ncaa, no King, no BOS." Why does Wade have to be interviewed in the presence of all those others?

LSU did the right thing suspending him because he wouldn't meet with them. I understand frustrations but Wade has brought this on himself. The timing was bad.
Maybe Joe Alleva should talk to his subordinates more, and had a conversation with Will one on one immediately after this all started.
You know, talk to him and say you're going to have to come in and answer questions from the Board, FKing, and maybe the NCAA. Tell me what's going on so we can move forward the best way with this.
Joe hasn't been on Will's side from Day 1. LSU isn't on Will's side. It's LSU against Will Wade, when it should be Will Wade & LSU against, at this point, the yahoo article, since there is no ncaa investigation against him.
All LSU has done is try to admit guilt upon Will Wade with just about every action they've made so far. They've done absolutely nothing to try to work with him.
Alleva should have met with Will Wade privately immediately, but that didn't happen.
Yes the quotes from tape sound bad, but they dont' prove anything. We all know what happened, and what happens at every good basketball and football team, but there is no proof here that anything actually happened after these conversations happened on these FBI tapes.

I don't think Wade's lawyer will allow it.

Teddy, I assume wade's lawyer told him to not talk to anyone.

an informal meeting to gameplan how to get around this?
That's what a good AD would do, work with his coach. It's clear Will Wade and Joe Alleva don't and did not have a good relationship, b/c if they did, that's what would have happened.
You have that conversation, and maybe Joe tells Will and his lawyer, if you can't come meet with the Board and Fking, then it's going to be really hard to not suspend you right now until we can sit down and have that meeting. Will understands that, and takes his punishment if given it.

Joe has absolutely been on WW side. He has a vested interest in his long term success. He hired him and it's a reflection on him.
But you are right that LSU is not on WW side. Nor should they be. They represent what's best for the university, and this ain't it. Get an acceptable answer from WW or part ways. That's typically how employer/employee relationships work.

If I had a good relationship with my boss, and i got caught doing or saying something that may sound as if i may have done something against the rules, my boss would likely want to talk to me before meeting with HR and the higher ups, hear my story, and talk about the best action moving forward.
If i had a bad relationship with my boss, we might not have that conversation, and i just get called into the meeting with everyone and they are likely out to get me fired.

I agree, and i think he probably is on his side, but he hasn't shown that publicly at all, and as i said before, his type of relationship with Will Wade before all of this is why he appears to not be on his side.
As i said, if they had a good working relationship where they talk often, then that informal meeting would have happened. I've heard it several times on the radio, not that that is some be all source, that Joe doesn't have that kind of relationship with any of his coaches where they talk on a regular basis. It appears the relationship is merely a formality. Our coaches look out for themselves, and our AD looks out for himself more often than not.

You have to remember that there's already been a discussion about this. This is round 2.

LSU has to protect itself.
You can say that, while at the same time acknowledging that LSU has been heavy-handed and clumsy in handling this.
Seems to me the best way to protect themselves is to get together with WW without the NCAA so that he can tell you everything and they can strategize going forward.

What they new in October, the transcript between Wade and Dawkins talking about "funding" for the Euro kid who ended up signing with FSU, was just as damning as the "strong arse offer".
Creigton's coach was directly on the calls, although those have not been released, but details of the payments made to of one of their players has been released. No suspension of any kind for Coach McDermott.

“ LSU has to protect itself”
That cat was long out of the bag. A severe reaction 30 games into a college basketball season as far as the NCAA will be concerned is pissing into the wind.
Asking a coach who is under notice of a federal subpoena to come in to a formal meeting and discuss what his testimony will be in a coming trail will result in only one thing. That coach not attending that meeting.
To have LSU acting like they are all confused as to why Will doesn’t attend such a meeting, is more than a little amusing.

My guess is that LSU wanted to show the NCAA that it took the situation seriously and it wants to avoid the harshest of possible penalties.
As far as wade getting together with LSU, I assume Wade's lawyer said no.

quote:My sentiments exactly. Unless, of course, we're talking about buying prostitutes for players or making up bullshite courses that the players can boost up their GPA on. And notice we haven't heard shite about either of those schools. Vitale is going out of his way to defend the prostitution thing, he said it with his mouth on the air this morning.
I believe he's guilty, but I don't give a shite. I like winning. Nobody likes watching a morally upstanding basketball team that's shitty.

quote:And imbeciles will proceed with the Ready-Fire-Aim methodology you promote here, and which Alleva famously undertook at Duke and has undertaken at LSU.
The homers will deny it to their graves. It’s pathetic.
The very simple fact is Smart was vetted and cleared both by LSU and the NCAA after the Wade wiretap excerpts were illicitly released. Your assumption of guilt before hearing is noted, and unfortunate, as is that of LSU.

That would be seen as "collusion", a word everyone today should know. Alleva will never meet or speak to Wade without another administrator, or NCAA official present, or listening. Everyone knows what Wade was doing, Alleva, the NCAA, everyone coach does it, but when you play the game you know the unspoken rule is don't get caught, and if you do you will be on you own.

They will change their tune when probation comes. If they believed in what they are saying, they would’ve showed up to the protest.
Will Wade was reckless and greedy. Get other people to make those calls and don’t use your own phone.
The “where is the proof?”; “Admin leaked the info”; “Yahoo is not a credible source”; “Smart had been cleared”; and “Why hasn’t he been fired yet” arguments are flimsy with clear rhetorical holes.

Well said.
And btw, I'm a big fan of the Prowler.
