Going to SF in April for business but have 3 full days beforehand reserved for touring.

Found a handful of these package deals where they take groups of 10-12 and pick you up from your hotel, take you to the golden gate bridge for a few quick pics, go to Muir Woods for an hour or two, then to a few wine tastings in Sonoma Valley Wine Country and a final stop in Sausalito. You have the option of being dropped back off at the hotel or going your own way from Sausalito which we thought about taking the ferry back. Cost was like $150 a person.

Seemed like a good little deal to get a variety of experiences and the reviews look pretty favorable online. Other two days we were just going to stay in the city.

Anyone ever do one of these tours?

I haven't personally, but my work is HQ'd there and I know a lot of people do take trips like that when they visit and have a little extra time.

The timing there sounds about right. Golden Gate briefly but go see it, Muir woods is cool. Sonoma is probably the fastest place they can get you to, and they have great wines (I like Sonoma > Napa personally). I've never visited Sausalito, so can't say much about that.

Wife and I did the Muir Woods one years ago. I'd recommend that and the Alcatraz tour for sure.

Did Dylan's Tours back in 2013, enjoyed it a lot. One of the many stops on the tour was Muir Woods. Dylan's Famous Tour I've also done one of the Chinatown tours twice (once solo, 2013 with new wife). It also was a lot of fun. Linda Lee's All About Chinatown

I would also recommend Pt Reyes National Seashore if you want to hike around and see some cool things for the day.

Rent a car and tour yourself around for the day you want to get out of the city. Redrock beach just south of Stinson on the 1 is incredible...as are about 50 million other spots.

My wife and I did Sonoma Valley wine tour with “Edge of the World Tours” that was excellent. The tour guide had a wealth of information on the area and we enjoyed the three wineries that we were taken too. They picked us up at our hotel in San Francisco. On the way to Sonoma Valley we stopped at a vista point on the Sausalito side of the Golden Gate Bridge for pictures. On our way back from Sonoma we stopped in Sausalito for thirty minutes and had the option to stay in Sausalito or be dropped back off at the hotel.

I would also highly recommend the night tour of Alcatraz while you are in the area. It was great and one of the highlights of our trip.

I hope you like dealing with other folks and being on a schedule. Someone else said rent your car and do it on your own. That's the only way for me unless you like being led around.

We rented a car and got to Muir woods early, like around 7 a.m. It's still technically closed but you park on the street facing out. you see it when it's quiet, and you're getting out of there when the crowds are arriving. Then head up to wine country on your own.

Of course we had to drive BACK from wine country...

Rent a car and drive up to Sonoma, go see the coast and Muir woods on the way back. The thought of being on a bus with other slow walking people would drive me nuts.

You haven't been in a while, I see. Well, neither have I actually. Everything has changed, reservations are now required. Muir Woods Reservations I've been twice, both times as part of tours out of SF with two different outfits. There is a lot to be said for being dropped off at the park entrance. The last time I attempted to visit on my way back to SF from Tahoe I had to park FAR down the road, decided on my hike back to the entrance that I didn't want to see it again that badly so I left. (They have shuttles now so distance from where parked shouldn't be a problem.) One downside of the tours is that your time there is limited. I think we had a couple of hours to spend in the park, would have liked more.

Whatever you decide to do in or out of SF, you need to get going with reservations ASAP. Everything that requires a reservation really fills up fast (including tours). IMO if you decide to drive out of the city hit Muir Woods first (opens at 8:00 if you can get a reservation for then) and then head for Napa or Sonoma.

I rented a car and did all that exactly on my own.

The Drive up to Muir Woods will scare you to death if you are scared of heights.
Sausalito...........wish I could move there.

Bring a jacket ............its freaking cold in April. Trust me.
