I fricken hate public speaking. Should be about 50 or so people. Not a shy person at all, just something about it that makes me extremely uncomfortable but the boss asked me to do this a few weeks back.

Anyone else as much of a puss as me ?

Update:

Finished! Boss said I killed it. No better feeling in the world. Felt on top of the world. When I first started I could feel my voice cracking. I stared at one person in the audience for 30 seconds just talking and it took off from there. Thanks OT

Once you get rolling you’ll be fine. Focus on someone who looks interested.

Don't sweat it. Everyone else in that room will just be counting down the seconds until they get to leave.

Maybe you will start crying in the middle and have to leave the room.

The more you practice before the speech the better it will be.

Just go in relaxed knowing its a Friday and you on easy street the rest of the day once this is done. Also, study your presentation and know the material. Piece of cake

I know the information better than anyone in that office. It’s the reason my boss asked me to do this. I just get those jitters

Practice and pacing.

You'll kill it.

Biggest mistake is talking to fast because you are nervous.

Humans evolved to be afraid of public speaking. Being up there in front of those people, you're vulnerable. They could gang up and kill you. They probably won't, but they could.

He’s right. As long as you know the material, just get past the first few minutes and before you know it, you’ll be done.

If you’re not nervous, you don’t care.
Being nervous is good.

I hate it too and have to do it occasionally. Rehearsing several times makes it better for me.

Me. I had to give an hour long CE session to healthcare members at the hospital I was on rotation at in school. Legit almost threw up prior to talking. Nothing like trying to teach people when you are probably the dumbest one in the room

Try to keep busy until it’s time to to present. It’s the anxiety that builds up in the downtime before that’s a killer. Keep your mind as occupied as possible.

Even experienced speakers have great anxiety about public speaking.

I've found that making small talk with as many audience members as possible before the presentation helps relieve anxiety a ton.

Shave your balls tonight and rub one out 30 minutes before the meeting.

Imagine them all naked.

Maybe they’ll actually be naked and it’ll be easier.
