I'll be in Lake Charles for a few days staying at the Golden Nugget. I'm usually over there a couple of times a year and have found that the food scene wasn't that great.(Other than Darrel's) Are there any good places that I should try?

The Villa downtown has really good Italian, and the service is great as well.

Calla and The Villa are great. Maplewood Discount opened a spot on Nelson, supposed to be good burgers. Also, Pauls Rib Shack is great...kind of pricey though.

1910 down on Ryan. All of the others mentioned are good but 1910 is an experience. Great service, fantastic bar tender and a huge selection of spirits. Food is first rate.

Some that haven't been mentioned...

Victoria's taqueira for breakfast or lunch
Tasterite Jamaican
Botsky's - hot dogs and sausages
Luna - several different fish dishes and sandwiches
Prime - burgers, sandwiches, plate lunches
BBQ West - if you want BBQ go here
Cousin's - Lebanese and seafood
Pizza Artista - Bocherie pizza is great
Rosita's #2 - Real Mexican food
El Tapatio - solid Tex-Mex
McFarlane's - Irish pub

DO NOT go to Casa Manana

ETA: 1910, The Villa, Calla, and Mazen's are all fantastic but more pricey than most of the ones I listed. Mazen's is my favorite out of the four.

Hackett's has the best plate lunches in town. Nina P's is good all around and has some great eye candy

These all look really good. I like a good plate lunch. I usually pick up my boudin from Best Stop when i’m In SWLA. How is Hackett’s and how are the other items they sell?
Mazen’s looks like a good dinner option.

McFarlane’s Irish Pub. Scotched eggs are legit and the Shepherd’s pie isn’t half bad either.

I stay at Golden Nugget about a have dozen times a year and stick to Vic & Anthony’s. I haven’t had anything outside the casino that could compare

ETA: Chart House is good too

In Scott? How could you be that close to Billy's and go to Best Stop?

Their boudin and sausage is meh. Their plate lunches are fantastic though.

Others have mentioned Call, I think it's the best restaurant in town.

To each their own. I’m not touching the age old question of who has the best boudin. I’m hitting up Kartchner’s for some jalapeño cream cheese balls for lunch tomorrow and Best Stop on the way back Saturday. I was just wondering if Hackett’s had decent stuff. I’ve still got probably a half dozen packs of Best Stop boudin from my last trip. I was kind of wanting to find the best smoked boudin to try. Any suggestions?

It’s just hard for me to justify paying that much for a steak that I can cook almost as good for a fraction of the cost.
