I had to check my dad on several occasions growing up.

It's not fun, but I could put him down by the age of 15.

I was in a very similar scenario...except I had a step-dad, I don't think he ever truly cared for me. I was 17 playing my PS2 waiting to go to work that evening(I worked at Sonic oddly enough)...it had been raining its arse off and everything was flooding, my mom told me I wasn't going to work and I said oh yes I am...15 seconds later my step-dad approaches me and says he's going to whip my arse like a man. I was 6'4 240 at the time, he's like 5'10...I stood up, got within 1 inch of his face and said fricking do it...his face turned white and he walked away...never got into it with him after that, and that incident has never been discussed.

My dad played nose tackle for a Division 1 college football team, so I never had any thought of getting into an altercation with him.

Why so many downvotes?

He liked to get handsy with my mom. It wasn't bad, and she can drive you crazy, but any amount is too much.

And I said that it wasn't fun. Nobody wants to put hands on their dad. I didn't beat the frick out of him. The worst was putting him through a non load bearing wall at around 16 or 17.

I still respected him as a father after. He was still boss. But the whole family knew where the line was drawn.

If he was a drunk though...one of us would probably be dead. I feel bad for young people that have to grow up wit an unhappy drunk.

My dad was extremely physically and emotionally abusive. One time at the dinner table he punched me in the face because he said I had a dirty finger nail.

Another time I wouldn't drive my step-sister to rent a movie because I was late going somewhere. When I get home he starts hitting me and challenging me to a fist fight.

I never fought back. I would never in a million years put hands on my father no matter how much of an a-hole he is.

Are you my brother?

For real though, not many men alive considered an altercation with my father a winning proposition. I managed to piss him off one day in my teens. I was on the ground before I realized it had started.

No, shite no.

1. I have too much respect for my dad to ever raise a fist.
2. My dad's not a piece of shite, so there would never be any reason for an altercation to arise.
3. We're not trashy, despite being him being born in Bunkie and raised in Pineville and me being born in Alexandria. We've both graduated LSU, have a full sets of teeth, consistently been employed, no substance abuse history, and have never been arrested.

These are the same for me. I once read this statement somewhere and I think it's absolutely true (can't remember exactly how it went, but here is the gist of it):

You won't be able to kick your dad's arse, and by the time you'll be able to you won't want to.

ETA: found it:
quote:

"Son, at your age you are going to want to kick my arse from time to time. But you won't be able to. By the time you are able to, you won't want to anymore"
