Camille Cut Is No More
Knew this was coming, but it happened rather quickly once they started. I was out there on my boat in July; they hadn't even started dredging or fill at that point, just some pre-positioning of equipment.
Still lots to do; they will create and vegetate a dune system which should help it remain in place.

I caught my first Lemonfish trolling a spoon through the cut back in 76-77 I was 4 or 5 years old. Lots of good times as a kid on Ship Island.

Easily to coolest part about living on the coast down here, so beautiful out there.

It really is nice out there. The North side is really great calm clear water, especially after a period with no rain. Favorite spot in the summer time for sure.

You know it.
These were taken a few years ago, north side of E. Ship:

Damn that makes me want to get another boat! Sold my worldcat before I bought land and moved to south Mississippi.

What do you think, I went out there with the commoners by ferry on the south side!?!
There was not a better place close to NO to waste a summer afternoon pre K. We used to run out to SI, then dock at a casino overnight. The north side was better due to less crowd, but the Southside looked like Destin with blue water and smaller breakers on a good day.

No doubt. We just enjoy the north side for the quiet and no wave action for kids to play. Rip current can be rough on the South side and too many have died out there from it (same as most Gulf beaches, I'm sure).

Last time I went out there I can remember two things. Stepping on huge blue crabs everywhere and running for our lives when a huge thunderstorm snuck up on everybody from behind. Everybody had to run to the fort. I think 3 boats sunk that day behind the island

That’s some beauty right there. Looks like they are doing some damn awesome work too!

I’ve kayak fished at Cat Island before. Awesome water. Didn’t catch much fish though

My boat has been in the shop; haven't got a chance to go check it out in person YET.
But the new aerial view is up on Google Earth:

Mississippi baws are the only folks that call a Ling a Lemon fish.

Going to be interesting to see what the NPS does about camping, E Ship was legal while W. Ship was not.

I'm a Cajun and I've always called them lemonfish.
