What’s your opinion on DWI checkpoints?

That still wouldn’t mean you were detained or had your rights violated. Or that you have a right to be compensated by US taxpayers. I’d tell the officer no and ask if I was free to go or am I being detained. Maybe they should learn English and their rights..

Yeah I'm sure its 100% only because they were speaking Spanish. ?

I'd wager that they were refusing to answer any questions. Because Spanish is something that quite a few border patrol agents speak.

So would I, but if I am stopped and questioned by the cops because of something that happened in my neighborhood thems is the breaks.

Why were they speaking Spanish? What were they trying to hide from the people around them? They sound sketchy as hell.

It does.

If I was detained solely for skin color, or poor enunciation of English, or the fact I'm wearing religious attire, etc, you're damn straight my rights were violated.

Again with the qualifier that WE MAY NOT KNOW THE FACTS here, your I.D. is none of his Goddamned business. Geeze.

It must be nice to also be born here but never getting needlessly detained as you go about your every day business. What's that privilege like?

Ask the two women.
Are you suggesting this happened to them numerous times?? If not, your comment is dumb imo.

Try to refuse to show a cop your ID. Let me know how that goes

Or store security that may "watch" you because you fit a certain profile?

Words have meaning. They were not detained.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea, but it also wouldn’t make it easier for them to communicate better with the majority of US citizens.

You run store A. Occasionally, stuff gets stolen. The only time stuff goes missing is when... hmm... let's say white customers are there. When blacks, browns, yellows, reds, etc. come in, nothing is ever stolen. So you tell your security to 'watch the white customers.' Is that bad? Or is that common sense? Take a step back and think about it for a moment. Should we penalize people for noticing patterns? Is that the world you really want to live in?

No kidding. They were born here and decades later they're still all "Habla..Blah Blah..Ai Crumba, taco chalupa"??

They must have been talking about shoplifting something.

I know “privileged“ people that have been needlessly detained by law-enforcement.

The issue here is an over-zealous LEO. Not a racial one.

This.

The guy was overzealous in carrying out his job. The ladies were held up for 40 minutes - and if everything went as described then there is no reason for that. There's more to that part of the story for sure, it doesn't take 40 minutes to simply verify identity.

There's more to this that isn't being reported.

Source - am federal law enforcement. We don't "detain" anybody without cause, even for 40 minutes. An ID verification takes a minute at most.

ETA - I didn't watch the video. May just be an extremely overzealous officer from the sounds of it. We can't all be perfect.
