North of the Tennessee River. I don't want to be too specific.

That’s a great area. Don’t blame you.

32 ACT for a white non-athlete male isn’t going to get you in at those schools.

I think that was the point, it would for a Black or Brown person easily. But the Yellows have it worse than the whites.

This isn’t a shot against that kid but some of the smartest people went to state schools then worked their way up to be executives
No shite. I supervise people who went to Penn, Duke, Tulane, Harvard, and Vanderbilt. We're all doing well and at the same station in life.

32? Maybe if they’re from a notoriously terrible high school. 34 and we’re talking.

Victims of their own success.

The UC system does not account for race in admissions, which is why Cal Tech and Berkeley are waaaay more Asian than general population demographics.

And colleges want student bodies that represent the country roughly. If they accepted best scores only and looked at nothing else, Harvard and Yale would be 70% Asian.

I solemnly wish that some Trump nominated judge will one day strike down Griggs v Duke Power Co.

Colleges would be so much less influential if companies could administer IQ/competency tests.

How many white Americans are waking up to this new reality where merit no longer matters?

Apparently you don’t understand what kind of merit you are competing against, especially for Duke, Princeton and Rice.

I may be wrong, but I believe that if your friend had a fat wallet and toted a name like Kellogg, or Westinghouse, this would be a moot conversation.

This was the feeling I received when daughter applied at SMU.

I haven’t been there since late 90s. It was crunchy then but I don’t recall it being overly political. I was holding out hope it hadn’t gone off the deep end.

Yeah, Washington and Lee sounds like a good potential option here

I have a boy who will Be college age in 7 years. Smart kid. Straight As, gifted program, good soccer player and excellent piano player. Sadly he is white though.

Assuming he at least meets minimum qualifications for ACT and GPA, how much will the soccer and piano help with admissions? Would he have to actually make the university soccer team for it to make a difference? And would he need to be in the music program for him to get credit for the piano?
