Was having a few with friends this afternoon and my pal, who has an 18 year old boy who is starting to get his college rejection letters in at a brisk pace, was apoplectic over his son's rejections. I never discussed politics with him before, but always pegged him as a center left person based on some of his habits. He is a middle class guy who is a CPA. This has become a red pill of sorts for him. His son has a 1450 SAT, 32 ACT, 4.3 GPA, is a recently licensed private pilot active in the Civil Air Patrol and a multi-sport letterman at his school and has been rejected from Duke, Princeton and Rice so far. Still waiting on Tulane. LSU is the safety school. He is, of course, a white male.
How many white Americans are waking up to this new reality where merit no longer matters? Will this have an effect on waking up the Gen X'ers whose kids are being shafted by diversity?

It reminded me of this blog post I read a few weeks ago on the topic.

But being a meticulous investor in an age of extreme extraction preference can sometimes be a bitter pill. Because, as the father began to recount through nearly gritted teeth, his son’s rejection notices from elite universities had already begun to congest their mail box. The father found that grating enough, though understood Ivy League level dismissals are simply a thing to accept with equanimity. What possibly sent him into commenting at the Kakistocracy, however, was his son’s rejection from a large state university. Granted this was a fairly prestigious institution, though one with an incoming class featuring literally thousands of POCs with resumes inferior to his son’s. With alcohol’s gentle urging, he was livid about it. With one hand he rubbed the skin of his forearm and spat out, “apparently this wasn’t the right color.” He was correct, it was not.

quote:

Well, I know one father and son who just got their noses broke. Did they think having the luxury of living in a country with millions of people who hate you was just going to be cost free? No, diversity is a luxury. Just not for any of the people actually paying for it. So their son will glumly take his 1500 SAT to a mid-tier state college, where he will promptly be regaled with encomiums to diversity. Perhaps he will Email a list of its benefits back to his father. It really is funny how myopia seems to be culturally communicable. Haitians didn’t massacre right-wing whites in 1804; they massacred all of them. Mugabe didn’t kill or confiscate from right-wing whites; he killed and confiscated all of them. Affirmative action and diversity aren’t programs against Bad Whites, they’re programs against all of them. Yet white liberals only comprehend what cuts their own forearm. Ahh well, at least Harvard admitted David Hogg.

32 ACT for a white non-athlete male isn’t going to get you in at those schools.

He will get into Tulane.

Welcome to the sad reality!

Now, why exactly would he want to waste precious time and resources at those liberal hothouses?!?! Has he visited those colleges, has he experienced the campus atmosphere? It doesn't sound like they would be a good fit for him. Not the other way around!

If he's that smart he would probably be better without college.

Elizabeth Warren pretended to be an Indian in order to further her career.

Being white puts you at a huge disadvantage in many fields these days, and academia is #1.

He’s better off not even going to those places, though. The “value” of those degrees is going to continue to spiral. And these “diverse” graduates aren’t going to refill the endowment coffers in the future

True. I was in college in the late 90s. My oldest kid is 8. The people whose kids are going to college now came up at a time when getting into those schools was the pinnacle of achievement and merit...and those scores and accomplishments would have been more than enough. I definitely see things differently for my kids when it will be their time 10+ years from now. This guy still believed that merit trumps all. The red pill moment for him is discovering that is not the case.

I know of 2 out of staters that didn’t get into Georgia with a 32 last year (they had a huge application bump for making it to National Championship- crazy how that happens).

When you have places like Georgetown with students voting to tax themselves for 'slavery reparations,' Ivy League places suspending classes to allow students to 'protest' something or other, etc. it's time to re-evaluate the entire approach and turn things on their heads. Go to a state/safe school, get a degree in something solid that has a future, and save your $$ for a down payment for a house after graduation. Most young people can't afford to buy a house because they don't have the savings for a down payment.

Let the Ivies and their cousins keep their cretins!

Doesn't Georgia have a limit on out of state admissions? 15-20%?

Those numbers aren’t good enough for those three schools absent some other outstanding qualifiers. What was his class rank?

He’s going against kids with everything he’s got outside the classroom on top of 1550+ SAT and valedictorian merits.

Not sure the percentage . No doubt they take mostly in state so not much room for others. I don’t have a problem with a state school trying to take as many of their own as they can (with reasonable credentials).

This isn’t a shot against that kid but some of the smartest people went to state schools then worked their way up to be executives

Unfortunately, that's not the case any more in some states.

University of Maryland has become very difficult to get into for in-state applicants. Blaming budgetary constraints, the University is accepting more and more out of state and international students who pay full, out of state tuition.

Of course, WHY an out of state student would choose Maryland is a different topic.

1450 SAT, 32 ACT,

He’s competing against a lot of kids with better scores than those numbers for those schools. Those are very good scores but just not what they need to be for Harvard.
