Need to make old bridge and airline some sort of bypass. Widen airline and make left 2 lanes bypass only with no lights or something.

People would cut through Port Vincent to get to Livingston Parish. I work in WBR and I would take this route in a heartbeat

If it does not connect I10 to I12 it is pointless. All truck traffic goes from 10 to 12. A bridge south of BR is dumb.

100 times this. It has to go all the way to at least I10 with a true interchange, not this "get on hwy 30 and drive through Gonzales" bullshite. It can have a hwy 30 exit, but it also needs to be a true bypass for trucks on their way to the Port of New Orleans to relieve traffic across the new bridge. I'll be pissed if they waste another billion dollars to just build a plant baw bridge.

Even better if it goes all the way to I-12 with two interchanges. Hell, build it out to just on the other side of I-10 now and worry about the 10-12 connector later, if you have to. That's cheap compared to a new bridge and would be much easier to do if you lay the groundwork now to get a true I-10 bypass around BR.

The bridge will take twice as long to build as the approaches. They have plenty of time to sort out the connections to I-10 and I-12 after they start bridge construction.

I don’t know much about what it’s gonna take in wbr but the first 2 options are only ones that seem to offer an alternative route through BR.

Why not leave 10 at about grosse tete, go just north of plaquemine, build the bridge and have it tie in to 10 south of the country club of LA? You don’t even need a full loop, just a by pass like that would work wonders.

CCLA people fought this hard about 20 years ago.

That would be the best route though. Would have to be elevated through the southern tip of the Spanish lake basin.

That with 2 new bridge crossings over the Amite River (Hooper and Harrel’s ferry) and a widened Airline Highway would solve a lot of problems.

I would put it between Dow and Plaquemine, with a connection to I-10 just east of Grosse Tete and just north of Tanger in Gonzales.

#1 and #2 will be a huge fight if they decide to go with one of those.

A lot of the older folks that live in the Gardere area moved or had to move from old south BR due to I-10 being built straight through the neighborhood.

And now this possibility of a new bridge is cutting real close to their home now.

It definitely should be moved. We don't need two.

Congrats on Baton Rouge getting a new bridge. But curious why LADOTD is soliciting input from an LSU message board?

A bridge is great for local traffic, but can we make it part of a greater loop or bypass of 10? All of the trucks traveling to I-12 will still be going on 10 and stalling on the bridge.

Good point. Incorporating a i-10 exit and I-12 exit would be the way to go.

What If I told you that was the ORIGINAL Plan when I-10 was coming through Baton Rouge, in 19 fricking 55? We got fricked then an still taking it raw.

In the original 1955 plan for urban Interstate Highways, numbered by 1959, the Baton Rouge bypass was designated Interstate 410; it would have connected to Interstate 10 on both ends (as I-10 would have used the US 190 corridor immediately west of Baton Rouge, still crossing the Atchafalaya Swamp in its present location). The route was cancelled by the end of the 1960s (and the number was later reused for another Interstate 410).

The Long family needed to get paid as Earl was the governor just prior and after Mckennon. Uncle Earl needs his cut.

Blue option has already been killed by WBR in 2007 and they will kill it again.

Blue option is too close to the current I-10 bridge anyway, need to spread out a little further down river.

Once on the LA 1 side of the river, how does traffic get to I-10? Up LA1/ well then we have the same issue we have now. Corps will never allow another connection with I-10 beyond 415.

It's not mapped, but the connection to I-10 is treated as a separate project.

A highway-grade connection is definitely needed.
