Fentanyl caused 4% of US overdose deaths in 2011. It caused 29% in 2016. 5,456 people died by overdose in Pennsylvania in 2017.

The DEA says Mexican cartels are the primary distributors of fentanyl in PA. Securing the border isn’t a political football—it’s a moral imperative.

U.S. border officers make largest-ever fentanyl bust: 254 pounds hidden under cucumbers

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in Arizona announced Thursday their largest-ever seizure of fentanyl — 254 pounds of powder and pills hidden in a truck hauling cucumbers.

The load was enough for more than 100 million lethal doses of the drug, a synthetic opioid that has fueled an epidemic of U.S. overdose deaths. In addition to the fentanyl, which was concealed in a secret floor compartment of the trailer, officers also uncovered 395 pounds of methamphetamine, CBP officials said.

Michael Humphries, director of the Nogales port of entry, told reporters that the drugs were detected Saturday after scanning equipment alerted officers to the presence of
“anomalies” in the cargo that did not resemble any vegetable.

A CBP canine team searched the truck, and officers opened the false floor compartment to find 400 packages of narcotics — an estimated $3.5 million worth of fentanyl and $1.1 million worth of methamphetamine.

“This represents the largest fentanyl seizure in CBP history,” said Humphries, standing beside armed CBP officers and a table stacked with dope.

The fentanyl, 50 times more potent than heroin, had been placed in hard plastic containers, apparently to avoid any potential exposure to CBP officers. The drug is considered so deadly that officers no longer cut open the suspected drug packets they seize at the border, aware that even a few salt-sized grains of the drug can be harmful.

“One kilogram of fentanyl produces 1 million fatal doses,” said Juan Mariscal, the assistant special agent in charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s investigative unit in Nogales, who described the bust as part of a wider investigation.

I'm admittedly pretty uninformed on this topic but what is fentanyl? Is it a form of synthetic heroin?

Simply too powerful to be used as a recreational drug yet it's being pushed by common drug dealers. Darwinism awards flooding the streets.

It’s charts like this that explain why the “America has always been great” quip is so toxic politically

Imagine living in a struggling small town with drug deaths soaring and zero jobs, turning on your tv and listening to Meghan McCain with her fat arse and butter face preaching to the elites at her dad’s funeral “but but but wahhhh America has always been great!”

Will just say it is also a real issue for law enforcement as well.

quote:

HARTFORD, Conn. — Seven drug detectives raiding a Garden Street apartment Thursday were exposed to the potent opioid fentanyl as it burst into the air when the suspects attempted to toss evidence, police said. The building was evacuated and later declared uninhabitable, police said. Officers seized a gun, $4,000 in cash and half a kilogram of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid. Three people were arrested. Two of the detectives on the raid — a Hartford detective and a state trooper — were the first through the door of the third-floor apartment, police said. They came in contact with the substance when it was tossed into a window and the packaging around it burst, sending powder into the air. The two detectives were taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, police Chief David Rosado said.

Yes. For a long time (still ??) it was used in a 'patch' form like the smoking cessation patches. In nursing homes and such for pain treatment, there were a LOT of cases where they patients' patches would disappear to be sold on the street. Now I guess they lace other drugs with it to increase their effect, but since it's so potent a slight miscalculation produces an overdose and kills the 'end user'.

Many liberals are in favor of legalizing all recreational drug activity. For them this is not a problem, just a tolerable side effect.

That's about having enough border agents. That isn't political football either since the Democrats are totally for that and have been for a long time.

But fentanyl isn't just coming in through Mexico.

From Canada

Minnesota

China

And guess what? It's even made in the US. It's only you guys had that same watchful eye on the pharmaceutical industry in the United States

Most opioids slow down and enter brain but Fentanyl goes through brain very fast. It’s extremely lethal because people who use opioids think all opioids hit you the same way say 15-20 mg of Hydrocodine hits you around the same as 15-20 mg of percs. This ratio isn’t comparable with Fentanyl.

How many recreational users or addicts are going to do the research on Fentanyl when they think it’s like all the other opioids they have experimented with?

Thanks. Obviously I've heard of it but didn't really know much about it. I actually went to school with a few guys that recently overdosed on heroin or fentanyl (don't really remember which one).

I watched a BBC crime show, Silent Witness, on Fentanyl last night. The LETHAL dose is 2mg. Their description was this. Take a normal size pill. Chop it up into 250 pieces. Each piece is still a lethal dose.
