I can't see the Knicks offering pick #1 for Davis. Maybe pick #4 but Zion looks like a once every ten years type of player. a more athletic version of Larry Johnson without the bad back LJ had.
They have Dennis Smith jr. and let's say they get Zion Williamson as very cheap assets.
Without trading for Davis they can have:
PG: Kyrie Irving or Kemba Walker
SG: Dennis Smith jr. ($4.4 mil.)
SF: Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, or Klay Thompson
PF: Zion Williamson (Roughly $9 mil.)
C: Deandre Jordan on a MLE contract
That team is built for now and the future. With only Davis and Irving they will still be less talented than Boston, Philadelphia, or Toronto if Leonard resigns.
Why would they trade away the two best cheap assets they have when they can pair them with any two of ten great free agents out there.
Basically they can let Durant pick his preferred teammate. If he wants Irving they can sign him outright with no trade.

If their goal is to form a super team, that pick will be traded for Davis or some other pieces

Davis is a proven generational talent. Zion is not. So, yes, it would make sense for the Knicks to make that trade.

Durant is over 30 and Kyrie past his mid 20's. You think they wanna wait years for some 18-19 year to develop into a man and the player he is suppose to be. Even then it's highly unlikely he becomes anywhere near the player AD is. And AD is that right now....
That's why they make that trade if they hit #1
