I had one behind me while deer hunting late one evening. The sound it made alone like to killed me . It was probably 4-5 ft behind the tree I was sitting against when it screamed. It was so loud that for several seconds I was confused. You just don’t expect something like that when you’re chilling waiting for a deer to step out.

And CO’s black bears are, in general, not a problem at all. I’d feel comfortable sleeping with my food in most of CO (though not in RMNP or anywhere that requires a hard sided canister)

How’s that for a pick-up line: “Hey baby. Wanna know how I got these scars? I killed a fricking mountain lion with my bare hands. Wait till I murder that pussy.”

I have hiked thousands of times in the front range foothills and the back country and I have never, ever seen one. It's very rare to see them. I don't think I ever even saw evidence of one. I can remember when a guy on Flagstaff Mountain had one charge into a plate glass window, it was stalking him while he was inside one morning and had no idea it was about to slam into a window. And there were definitely cases where they would be reported in the neighborhoods of Boulder from time to time. But with mountain lions, if you see one, you are likely being stalked.

It stated a "juvenile" mountain lion. I wonder how young it was....
it would be hard to believe a man could kill a full grown 180-200 lb mountain lion with bare hands.

how long before PETA and other SJWs are screaming for this guy to be prosecuted?
ETA: guess no outrage because it wasn't a panther

They’re too busy killing dogs and cats in their shelters.

80 pounds may not seem like a lot but when talking about a cat, that thing probably was strong as shite. This dude must be a badass

Juvenile cat. Male western mountain lions can reach nearly 200lbs in the winter. This one was likely less than 2 years old.

Nice gun. But not a carry in bear country gun for me.
I carry guns that say Magnum behind number
not mm behind a number

I've actually seen a mountain lion on two separate occasions while elk hunting in CO. First one was from about 100 yards walking through some dark timber and it never saw me.
September of '17, I was hiking back to camp in the dark and saw a bright yellow light reflecting from my headlight off to the right of the trail. As I got to where the light was, I looked to my right, and it was now 2 bright yellow lights about 6 inches apart. I immediately realized it was eyes and not reflectors. I clicked my headlight from floodlight to spotlight and it was a huge fricking lion 12 yards away, crouched and ready to pounce. I pulled my pistol and started screaming at it to go away. It hissed twice and finally ran off after about 30 seconds, or what felt like an hour. I was close enough to see whiskers and teeth.
I really wasn't that scared because I had my pistol, but if I wouldn't have seen it first, it could have easily killed me. It was fricking huge. Probably 180+ lbs.

My back yard was The Flatirons/Front range foothills. I hiked five/six days a week for ten years. It's why I lived there. Think of it as the daily run. So thousands is appropriate.
