Wave your arms slowly and speak firmly. What you want to do is convince the lion you are not prey and that you may in fact be a danger to the lion. Fight back if a lion attacks you. Lions have been driven away by prey that fights back.
People have fought back with rocks, sticks, caps or jackets, garden tools and their bare hands successfully. CPW recommends targeting the eyes and nose as these are sensitive areas. Remain standing or try to get back up.
While I certainly appreciate the advice in the article, I have to question “talk calmly and firmly”.

How the hell those things called get called “mountain lions”? They look more of a cougar than a lion. A nice kill but no man can kill a real lion no matter if he came from Colorado or any other states.

I can't believe that anyone running a mountain trail in Colorado would be out there with out bear spray. When I went fly fishing there, always had a canister at the ready as well as my 1911 cocked and locked.
