I love when authoritarians are open about it.

Serious question...does the federal govt own the land along the actual border or do citizens own the land that includes the actual border? Not trolling, curious to know the actual answer.

Oct. 28, 2015 “As far as the wall is concerned, we’re going to build a wall. We’re going to create a border. We’re going to let people in, but they’re going to come in legally. They’re going to come in legally. And it’s something that can be done, and I get questioned about that. They built the Great Wall of China. That’s 13,000 miles. Here, we actually need 1,000 because we have natural barriers. So we need 1,000.”

Thanks. The DHS hasn't asked for 1000 so I don't think you need to worry about 1,000.

Border patrol wants more so they should get what they need to do their jobs.

Sounds sane to me but keep #resisting like a good prog.

That's interesting.

Only when that citizen votes D, in which case I'm all for taking their fair share to MAGA. I wouldn't even be offended if they recieve an arse kicking should they give these patriot workers any lip

Almost all of the land is privately owned, especially on the Texas border. The feds have purchased much of the Land along Arizona, New Mexico and California, but not all of it and not Texas. Many ranching operations actually extend across the land border and would be cut up by a wall. Also there is no “servitude” or anything like that. For much of the border you need a GPS to know which side you are on.

Same here. I am not for the feds taking anyone's private property.

Thank you for the straight answer. I just always assumed that the land along the actual border would be controlled by the fed govt like national park land.

I believe there is "border vista" on private lands.

I think its treated like a right-of-way which the Feds control.

There’s no guarantee that the ranchers along the border vote Democrat. But if Trump just sends bulldozers in and destroys their land, there won’t be nearly as many republicans down there when he’s done.

The Roosevelt Easement allows the federal government access to 60 feet of the border with Mexico. This is from a GAO report: "The land where this fencing was built has been publicly owned since 1907 when President Theodore Roosevelt reserved a 60-foot strip along the international boundary with Mexico for the United States to maintain the area free from obstructions as a protection against the smuggling of goods between the United States and Mexico. In effect, the Roosevelt easement provided the federal government with a 60-foot border right-of-way on which it could build the fence."
The federal government has the power to construct a fence along the border to protect the United States. In fact, in 2008 DHS Secretary Chertoff issued a waiver "to bypass environmental reviews to speed construction of fencing along the Mexican border." (NY Times)

ETA: I am not sure this is correct. I am researching the matter.

Seems like all these holdouts would change their position if we build the wall everywhere but their property. When they get tired of police actions forever occurring on their property because that’s where all the illegals are getting funneled, maybe they’ll be a bit more amenable to securing our country.

The easement apparently does not extend eastward along the entire border. This article from Alta is informative.

Eminent domain is a beautiful thing.
Otherwise, you'd have some belligerent cocksucker holding up progress of an interstate or border wall. The country comes first. These people are fairly compensated.
