A coworker is moving his daughter up form a cheap Rossi .243 and needs suggestions. His daughter is deathly afraid of recoil. After some research, a 6.5 CM has piqued my interest. Obviously, she will not be testing the limits of a 6.5 CM's thousand-yard range (most shots inside of 150 yards). The only downside I can see is less knockdown power than a .308 or 30.06 (which is very forgiving closer distances). Advice?

Any energy advantage is negligible between a 6.5 cm and a .308.

My son shot his two deer with a 6.8 spc and a 6.5 grendel.
I would have no hesitation recommending those either.

How difficult is it to find ammo for that caliber?

I went with 6.5 CM because I had a lot of trouble finding 7-08 in youth size in stock. No regrets.

You could get something other than a 7-08 but why would you.

I wouldn’t hesitate to let my 11 year old daughter shoot regular 7-08 bullets when hunting. She won’t be able to tell the difference between them and managed recoil if shooting a deer. You can order managed recoil for target practice from bass pro cabelas midway Rodgers etc right now..

Why’s that? I have both and my kids have smacked them with both. The youth Model 7 in .243 is my weapon of choice, what’s yours?
