I'm not a freshwater guy, so genuine question: Do bigger catfish not have poisonous fins?
Because it looks like this woman should be taking a dorsal fin to the chest.

The fins become blunt when catfish get to sizes like that. I’m not sure exactly when they become blunt but when catfish get into the larger sizes the fins are blunt.

All catfish have poisonous fins. Not poisonous enough to kill you but enough to cause extreme discomfort.
If you are ever finned by a catfish then rub the wound on its belly. The fish's oil is an antitoxin.

quote:That one's a blue. And yes, their fin bones are mildly venomous and barbed... but at about 5 pounds they've been beaten up in a couple spawns and the points wear down slowly and literally become blunt once they're around 10 pounds, depending of course on size of habitat and corresponding growth rate. Blues grow slower than channels so the fins wear down much quicker, pound for pound.

As to the OP... that's a big'o blue. Trophy catch. I target big flatheads and occasionally catch the accidental blue but I've not yet caught a blue even 1/4 of that weight. That's a real monster.

Definately true as I have done it. Is on a channel cat anyway.

Exactly what I thought. Even pictured Samuel L pointing a 1911 at his head telling him to say it again!

Be always been told rub the liver on it and since I have no clue what the catfish liver looks like when I get stuck the hard head is getting gutted and all of it is being rubbed on.

That's impressive because she's not a very big woman! Way to go girl!
