SPOILERS

Overall a great show, but man, season 8 and the beginning of season 9 sucked arse. Ive seen it all the way through season 7 before, but couldnt get through it after Michael Scott had left. At least they ended on a good note. Some thoughts...

1.) Why does everyone hate on Season 1? Its only six episodes, but its great. Really sets up the premise of the show up well.

2.) Andy's character arc was weird. They sort of screwed up his relationship with Erin from the very beginning. That was one of the things that really sucked with seasons 8 and 9. They just kept on saying 'no' to each other for no reason when one would ask out the other. I felt he really could have taken over the show as the main character too, but its like the writing fell off after Michael Scott had left. Early season Andy is the best

3.) Gonna be an unpopular opinion on here, but I thought the temp, Cathy, was hotter than Pam. I actually read a fan theory that speculated that Jim actually did cheat on Pam, and with the way the finale ended really seemed to support that idea. They imply that a lot of stuff happened off camera which would better explain why Pam couldn't trust Jim.

4.) Angela had to be one of the worst characters ever. BUT, Im glad they redeemed her in the end.

5.) Jim and Pam's character arcs/relationship really starts to tank after they get married. At first its understandable why they are so annoyed by everyone in the office, but later the joke starts to tank. The scene where they fake Pam's water breaking to get out of a meeting made them come across as really stuck-up and arrogant. And whats the deal with Pam going to see a movie during the middle of a workday when Michael was leaving? Do they hate the people around them that much?

6.) Kathy Bates' character was underrated. I thought she was great. She might be my favorite actress in Hollywood today. Do yourself a favor and go see 'Misery' if you haven't already.

Ed Helms was up in the air on the show several times because of commitments to movies (The Hangover 1 and 2), so I think that really hurt the writers.

That won't be unpopular

I agree. I thought after Carrell left it took a while but they finally got it on track. The last few episodes of season 8 were great. I liked season 9.

If they didn't have Plop and Dwight Jr, season 9 would have blown.

Andy became a caricature IMO. I really do not like his character.

You have to be mixing up the Office and Parks & Rec. I don't know anyone that hates on season 1 of the office.

They always were.

And Jim thought he was the smartest coolest guy on the planet.

Love when he starts his own company and his co-founders think he's an idiot.

Yeah, they really didn't seem to know what they wanted to do with him after season 3. By the end he was completely unlikable and I was glad he got meme'd. At times him and Erin worked, but most of the time it just didn't.

The first time I watched the series, I was on the "Pam turns into a real bitch" train, but after re-watching it I'm now on the "Pam turns into a real bitch because Jim is a complete a-hole" train.

Didn’t Jim go way out of his way to not sleep with Cathy? It seemed to me that Jim and Pam’s marriage issues had way more to do with Pam than Jim.

That's because Andy sucks. He was a bit player they tried to make into a major character and it did not work.

That's why Stanley, Ryan, Kevin, Kelly, Meredith > Andy They stuck in their lane.

People don't hate on season 1. It's just season 1 becomes a lot better on rewatch after you see the rest of the show.

Most of the time season 1 is just caveated for new watchers because while it sets up the premise of the show, it really is very different from season 2 and on. Greased back hair Michael Scott was weird

No one hates on season 1. Arguably the best considering it’s 6 episodes and probably 3 of the top 10 episodes come from it.

He went from uptight douche to preppy weakling to a shitty attempt to be another Michael Scott. Andy had his moments but they really tried to force him once Ed Helms became a bigger star. I know the writer's were in a crunch due to his schedule and the departure of Steve Carrell, but they really dropped the ball on that one.

I submit that the show started to "tank" after they got married. The show lost some tension after that and really tried to search for storylines. It obviously had plenty of good moments after that, but I think you could say that was when the show peaked. It went from being about the mundane life of an office to a lot of sitcom-esque situations.

Of course it's still arguably one of the funniest shows of all time. I've watched it all the way through several times and I'm still picking up on things.

No, i quess "hate on" was the wrong phrase. I just kept on reading how season 1 had low ratings and wasnt very popular with the critics, but seasons 2 took off like a rocket. There isn't that much different from those 2 seasons aside from Michael's slicked back hair, which I thought kind of worked.

It took it a minute to find it's legs. You can thank the Video iPod and iTunes for saving/launching the show. It was one of the first shows that people binged and it allowed viewers to pick up on the subtleties.

He was underrated for sure.

The show was different with him. Excellent, but still different.
