If you're watching run to run for winter weather in the south, you'll go crazy. Always look at ensembles until you're within short range model territory, and even then expect a last minute NW jump. Here in middle Tennessee I feel good if we're ~75-100 miles north of the snow line 24 hours out. Until then I don't get my hopes up for anything.

I'd spin it as the low pressure area took the right path at least.

The models have predicted about 22 of our last 2 snowy systems here in the deep gulf south. People are going to make themselves crazy watching run to run through this cold snap. The general background will have the ingredients for snow, so it'll show up every few runs.

The bitch of it, is getting them all to come together just right.

So right now, I'd just keep the jacket handy because winter is actually coming for like 2-3 weeks here.

06z has the low pressure even higher up the US. We are moving in the wrong direction for snow

Additionally there's another winter system wayyy out.

If we start getting hit with a bunch of cold fronts AFTER duck season ends I will be quite upset.

I see that low, but I'm actually looking at the area across the northern gulf of mexico.

The "snow" line, to simplify, is that 540 blue line I marked. Additionally, in winter when the deep cold comes, it comes with a big (1040 mb +) high pressure. You know, since cold air is denser than the warm stuff, it shows up as a big time high pressure. The cold isn't even in place on the 6z for it to matter.

The low pressure area is there, I marked with a "L" but it's certainly not closed off and quite weak. Right track but far too weak and not nearly enough cold air to bring the snow.

See here on the 18z from yesterday. Cold in place, low already closed south of Louisiana. Freezing precip everywhere.

Sorry the weather didn't cooperate while you tried to murder ducks.

Today's 18z with the cold in place...but no moisture to speak of. Getting snow here is never easy.

For those cold lovers though, models are all about an arctic outbreak to end the month.

Strong signal it'll actually feel like winter down here by the end of the month.

Last year my pipes busted and the horn on my truck went off at 3 AM. I was out there in single digit temperatures trying to disconnect it.

Before last winter: “Snow is awesome!”
After last winter: “frick snow.”
Except maybe a small amount that melts off within a few hours.

Yeah, we're talking more like highs in the 40s and maybe upper 30s and lows getting down into the 20s.

Ya I remember last year. Everyone was all pumped for the snow/cold and then once it got here everyone hated their lives. LMAO

But yes, last year sucked bad

Downvoters must be kids or hippies with no landscaping plants to worry about losing to a prolonged freeze.
